Contests

Turkic Marathon 2021

Turkic Marathon is an annual Wikipedia editing contest, which is carried out on the initiative and organization of Wikimedia Turkic UG with the support and with active cooperation with local Turkic Wikimedia affiliations. During the contest, contestants must create articles in their language edition of Wikipedia and add them to a special page (Fountain). The winners are determined by the jury for each Wikipedia. The goals of the marathon are:

  • Popularization of Turkic culture and language.
  • Recruit new editors.
  • Improve Wikipedia content.
  • Create new articles about Turkic topics.

The marathon was held for the first time in 2020, and during which more than 1336 new articles were created and 185 articles were improved, only in the Turkic Wikipedia's. 89 users took part in marathon, of which 20 were new users.

In 2021, more than 2,000 new articles were created, and the Azerbaijani Wikipedia became the record holder this year, where more than 800 new articles were created. Over 60 articles were improved during the marathon.

Post-Wikimania meeting of Wikimedians of Turkic Languages

Wikimedians of Turkic Languages User Group organized a post-wikimania meeting in August 2021 as a hybrid event. In-person participants of the event met at Uskudar University, Istanbul. We were happy to have this meeting in our country. A member of our user group made a presentation about the activities of WMTR group in that event.

Regular meetings

In 2021, Turkic UG held 3 meetings, all were online. During the meetings, important issues related to the future plans of the UG were discussed, and other problematic issues were also discussed. All meetings with related minutes are provided here.
