Through an alliance with the Internet Bolivia Foundation, we were able to work with around 150 teenagers implementing dynamics and activities to strengthen critical reading skills through the use of Wikipedia. These workshops were held in several municipalities of Bolivia:
- Coroico in the department of La Paz
- Aiquile in the department of Cochabamba
- El Sena in the department of Pando.
You can read our post about one of the sessions in Coroico here.

Community and diversity
editCultural mediation and free knowledge workshop
editThe workshop was designed to build knowledge about the natural bonds connecting cultural managers and Wikimedia projects. This included setting some criteria about the archive, the publishing industry and reality in Bolivia, local audiences, and creative approaches to these contexts. For this workshop, we invited four specialists in the cultural field: Cristina Machicado, Mary Carmen Molina, Wara Godoy Ruiz and Rodny Montoya. The final Practice took place on Museum Night. The participants developed their mediation skills, shared information about Wiki projects and cultural spaces, and listened to the stories from the attending personnel of the Archive that hosted the activity. At the same time, we carried out recreational activities with the goal of creating accounts and searching for literary characters through QR Pedia. You can find a little article about this experience here.

Wikiexploration
editWiki exploration was an activity coordinated with a local scout group that combined information on local species with guided parcours hosted by a biologist, to develop respectful photography and recording skills and to produce a proposed booklet about endemic birds. The pictures that were taken in this activity were then uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. The walk was intended as an introduction and an invitation for the participants to later take part in the Wiki Loves Earth campaing. Categoría de imágenes subidas en el evento.

Wiki Photographers was a project that came from a photo rally carried out in coordination with the National Museum of Ethnography and Folklore. By talking with the attendees, we discovered that many had a great desire to improve their skills in photography to contribute to Wiki projects. This activity granted them a scholarship to learn about photography that may record their context in the cities of La Paz and Oruro. One of the objectives of the project was to allow the participants to develop a vision of their own since they had mentioned that, beyond the tourist view, they had developed respect and dialogue skills related to people and the environment, rediscovered their cities, got to know new places and proposed to recount the reality from Bolivia. You can read more about it in this post, we invite you to see the pictures by [1] and Casi metro y medio. Currently, both fellows are an active part of the community.

Wiki Loves Earth
editIn 2023 we were also part of Wiki Loves Earth, in this framework we chose 13 finalist photographs that were sent to the global contest, we established 3 extra categories to promote participation and the diversity of representations and a complex look at the environment and human beings. As a result, at least 10 new articles were created, items from more than 100 protected areas in Wikidata were improved, and 815 images from across the country were uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. The contest was accompanied by virtual activities and photographic walks in at least 2 cities in Bolivia

WikiMixtura
editCoordination: Carla Salazar
Wikimixtura is an initiative of Wikimedistas de Bolivia to enrich the content about Bolivian living culture on Wikipedia and its sister projects. Throughout the year, several contests for articles, photographs, and quality multimedia content were held. In addition to improving the content in Wiki projects, it promotes a horizontal view, an ethical record, and a reflective view of the social value of cultural practices at many levels. As a result of this series of contests, there are at least 1,200 new photographs from all over the country reflecting characters and promoting an ethical and not just an aesthetic perspective, about articles we counted 35 new or improved articles.

The first version of Wikimixtura posed the challenge of generating video and multimedia, although the category did not bear fruit, we returned to the challenge of oral traditions, which are a great source of collaborative construction of knowledge in Bolivia. In alliance with the Film Department at Universidad Mayor de San Andrés, we managed to record 12 interviews with local culture promoters. You can see the videos on this link: Interviews
With the aim of accompanying the participation of new editors, volunteers organized complementary activities:
- Jornada de cocina local, Cobija
- Bicipaseo Cochabamba
Wiki Loves Monuments
editThis year we also participated in the Wiki Loves Monuments global photography contest, achieving the registration of more than 5000 photographs and being among the 11 countries with the highest participation. Along with the registration, we organized activities in five departments of Bolivia: Chuquisaca, Cochabamba, La Paz, Potosí, and Santa Cruz. Among the editing workshops, photography workshops, photo walks, and editing days in spaces as wonderful as the Casa de Moneda Mint, in Potosí. To fulfill our objective of diversifying our community and content, we created local categories to improve the representation of the cities of Sucre and Potosí, which were declared World Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, as well as other regional awards.

Semana de las lenguas Aymara, Quechua, Uru, y Phuquina
editThe collectives Qillqa Uta, Jaqi Aru, Aymar Yatiqaña, Aymar Aru Yatiqawi with the support of FILAC organized the Phuqina, Uru, Aymara, and Quichwa languages week. Wikimedistas de Bolivia supported the initiative and was also part of the first panel in which we shared experiences and invited the speakers of these local Bolivian languages to join the global Wikimedia movement. We also attended all the sessions reflecting and incorporating different perspectives in the understanding of the epistemologies of each culture. We invite you to read our post in this link and to relive the 5 sessions in the videos of the event.

Our country is a diverse state, legally called Plurinational state we are a great cultural space with 37 official languages, of which 4 have versions on Wikipedia, we have been working so that bilingual speakers can learn about the Wikipedia ecosystem and be the ambassadors and hosts that open the doors to the Aymara, Quechua and Guaraní speaking communities. We propose a horizontal and seek to avoid cultural extractivism in that order we work on different versions of communication materials in Aymara Quechua and Guaraní. Likewise, we have accompanied the formulation of lesson plans in Aymara and Guaraní as part of the Let's Read Wikipedia Program. You can see the invitation to participate in the Wiki Loves Earth contest here.

Other thoughts and work proposals
editWikimedia hand made
editOur souvenirs and materials are designed as open resources for transformation and re-creation. We are working on this concept to reflect and refocus our gaze on the people who make the digital world exist, both those we see directly and those who support life care systems and allow us to generate content on the Internet and even have the Internet working.
Governance, planning and evaluation
editWhat has changed now that we work with an annual grant? We were able to plan with greater projection and to work more consistently in evaluating and documenting the learnings of the coordination team, as well as of those from our volunteer community. We have more sustainable baselines for the development of a volunteer community, and we have established a rhythm and regularity in the activities, which has favored the position of the community as an ally in educational and cultural issues, free knowledge, and collaborative work.
Another achievement we consolidated and established was the work models we designed with allied institutions, under a more sustainable, scalable perspective and a wider projection. The annual plan has also allowed us to develop adjustments, reflections, and work proposals in the local environment. It also allowed for a test of many hypotheses about work models and ideas to achieve the objectives we set.
We worked to carry out quarterly evaluations that also reflected the renewal and growth of the community, supported the development of new leadership, and drew some boundaries between the volunteer field and the coordination team.

Why so many pictures?
editInternet in Bolivia is mainly accessed through mobile devices. Thus, the population's habits of approaching or obtaining all kinds of information are deeply rooted in information on sites designed for these kinds of devices. For this reason, we worked actively to create multimedia content that is accessible, fun, and that may correspond to local habits and interests. Events related to photography, multimedia, and local cultural practices have also posed challenges to produce creative responses.

editEducational materials and memorabilia
editThis year we also used materials to share with the local and global community, we developed these under the principles of local consumption, preferably handicrafts and manufactures. We also implemented educational materials that could be freely replicated or reproduced at low costs (photocopied), or to be intervened.
