Goals
editThe WMF Education team is happy to present the first edition of the Wikimedia & Education Greenhouse, an opportunity designed for one team of highly motivated Wikimedians to have access to training, mentoring and resources to turn a project idea into action. The W&E Greenhouse will support program leaders to structure their project on the idea of knowledge equity, considering the challenges and opportunities of their Wikimedia community and their local education contexts. By the end of the Wikimedia & Education Greenhouse experience, program leaders will be able to plan, implement, and evaluate high-impact education initiatives that contribute to the Wikimedia projects and result in student learning outcomes around 21st century skills. There are three ways community members can get involved in the W&E Greenhouse: applying as a team, applying as individuals, or supporting the development of the program as volunteer collaborators.
What does it mean, practically?
editThe first edition of the W&E Greenhouse will provide one selected team with seed funding to get their project idea off the ground, on-site visits from the WMF Education team for close personalized support, and a free online course focused on project management skills for Wikimedia and education projects. This free online course will also be open for anyone in the community to join and we encourage all motivated and committed individuals to do so. The online course will be developed and facilitated collaboratively between different staff members of the WMF and affiliates, in this sense we are also looking for experienced members of the Wikipedia & Education UG to actively contribute to this opportunity.
Who is invited to join?
editWikimedians who have led successful education initiatives and want to share their expertise are welcome to join the W&E Greenhouse as volunteer collaborators. There are collaboration opportunities to support the Greenhouse in the following areas: selection process, curriculum facilitation and design, forum engagement, and buddy system. The Wikipedia & Education UG board is kindly providing support to facilitate this collaboration process with the selection and organizing of interested volunteers. You can find more details and register your interest on this link before April 11th, 2019.
Wikimedians who have some experience and/or are highly motivated to develop an education initiative using the Wikimedia projects but are seeking more support and training opportunities are invited to join the W&E Greenhouse through the team or individual modalities mentioned above.
