Wikipedia Day unconference
The Wikipedia Day unconference is a model for a one-day participant-driven grassroots conference and celebration marking Wikipedia Day.
It is an opportunity for something intermediate in scale between a meetup and a Wikimedia Regional Conference, and for several years organized WALRUS and other campaigns have been held each January as a shared period for community-building and gathering of editors and interested newcomers in multiple locations, including being promoted through CentralNotice and sometimes supported by a Rapid Grant. The day can take any format, and can take place on any day locally, but usually includes a combination of scheduled presentations alongside exercises like lightning talks, and of course cake.
They have been held annually in New York City since 2010, in Los Angeles since 2017, and sometimes elsewhere.
