Similarities
They focus on a topic and send users into related pages.
Differences
They only deal with Wikipedia, the topics are very broad.
Pros
Linked to on Wikipedia, simple to use.
Cons
Part of Wikipedia, only deals with Wikipedia, very broad topics, not very well known.

An attempt to use Wikimedia Commons categories to link to various pages in the Wikimedia projects.
Similarities
They link to other Wikimedia Projects, each page centers on a topic.
Differences
They are only a part of an existing page.
Pros
Good category system already in place, easier to implement.
Cons
Part of Commons, not very well known, hard to write (lots of templates), based in an existing project. They only link to the other project's portal (so Commons on Egypt links to Wikipedia on Egypt).
