Airports

edit

Located in Schwechat, 20km southwest of the city centre, is Vienna International Airport. Travel time to the venue is approximately 40 minutes.

Bratislava, Slovakia’s capital, only 60 km east of Vienna, is an alternative for airtravel to Austria. Bratislava Airport, serving Bratislava, is connected to Vienna International Airport (and the Vienna International Bus Terminal (VIB) at Erdberg) by bus.

Bus and train

edit

Vienna has no central bus station; your arrival destination will depend on which company you’re travelling with. Eurolines has its main terminal (Vienna International Bus Terminal (VIB)) at the U3 U-Bahn station Erdberg, only a few stops from the venue.

Austria's train system is fast, efficient, frequent and well used. Österreichische Bundesbahnen is the main operator, and has information offices at all of Vienna’s main train stations. You can reach the venue within 15-20 minutes from all major train stations.

From most major european cities there are direct highspeed connections to Vienna:

  • from Zürich via Feldkirch, Innsbruck, Salzburg, Linz by RailJet or the private operator WESTbahn, from Salzburg to Vienna every hour (both incl. power sockets and free Wifi)
  • from Bratislava by regional train (50 mins to an hour, depending on the station iN Vienna)
  • from Budapest/Tatabánya/Győr by RailJet (incl. power sockets and free Wifi)
  • from (Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, Strasbourg, via Ulm), Munich via Salzburg, Linz by ICE or RailJet (incl. power sockets)
  • from (Berlin via Dresden), Prague, Brno by RailJet or ICE
  • from Warsaw via Krakow
  • from (Hamburg / Dortmund, via Cologne), Frankfurt/Main via Würzburg, Nürnberg, Linz by ICE or RailJet (incl. power sockets)

Visa

edit
Schengen Area

Visas for stays of up to 90 days are not required for citizens of the EU, the EEA (European Economic Area) and Switzerland, much of Eastern Europe, Israel, USA, Canada, the majority of Central and South American nations, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia or New Zealand. All other nationalities, including nationals of Belarus, China and Russia, require a visa.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs website has a list of Austrian embassies where you can apply. For some nationals a biometric passport is required.

Austria is part of the Schengen Agreement, which includes all EU states (minus Britain and Ireland) and other states. In practical terms this means a visa issued by one Schengen country is good for all the other member countries. You can stay for a maximum of 90 days within a time frame of 180 days.
