I apologize for this being such a clunky page, but I'd like to see if we can make it work.
Purpose of this table
editThe purpose of this table is to get a sense from people here of what they think the criteria should be for determining how funds are disseminated in the movement --- in other words, what conditions should need to be in place before money is awarded to movement players. It seems to me that different requests likely warrant different levels of assessment, based on who is making the request, how much funding is being requested, and what its purpose is. The goal of this table is to see if we've got any agreement on what levels of assessment would be appropriate for each type of request.
How this table is structured
edit- The left-most column lists the nature of the entity and what level of funding it is asking for.
- All the other columns are various funding criteria. There is a legend below the table.
- The contents of each cell will be checkmarks, or if no-one has added a checkmark it'll say Example.
How to fill in this table
editFirst, thank you for being willing to give input! Filling out this table would probably take about 10 minutes, and I appreciate you investing the time. Anybody can fill out this table, no matter who you are: I am just asking for opinions here, and although some people will be better informed and more invested than others, I think everybody's opinion would help. I am going to assume that anybody who fills out the table is doing it with their personal opinions only. For the purposes of this, I'm not actually that interested in who thinks what; I am more interested in just seeing if there's general agreement anywhere.
To fill out the table, please add a to the appropriate cells.
Examples: If you believe that all funding requests should have their strategic value or likely impact assessed relative to other funding requests, then you should add checkmarks to all the cells in the K column. If you believe that "track record of compliance with local laws governing your type of organization" is irrelevant, then you should not add any checkmarks to cells in the D column. If you believe something that you can't fit into the table (like, if you believe that no individual should ever be given a grant exceeding 500K) please make a comment beneath the table.
I'd like to encourage people to fill out the table even if they're not absolutely certain about their views, and even if they think their opinions might change after discussion with others. The purpose of this is to do a quick scan of people's initial views today, so we can see if there's quite a bit of general agreement, or not.
How else you can help here
edit- Feel free to publicize this page to other people who might want to fill it out, and who haven't noticed it. That would be very helpful.
- I wonder if we also want to add "x"s in addition to checkmarks. Feel free to do that too if you want.
- If you can make the table better and easier to use (like Mike Peel did for this table, by fixing some formatting wonkiness related to footnotes), that would be great.
- If you want to add new columns (new criteria), I think that's fine. You might want to discuss them on the talk page first, just to check if people find them useful/understandable. It probably isn't worth adding new rows (ie types of funding requests) since the ones currently in the table probably cover 100% of possible types.
- If you want to dramatically overhaul anything here, please discuss it on the talk page.
I'm going to fill out the table myself, but I'll probably wait a few days so my input doesn't accidentally have an anchoring effect on anybody else. Caveats: my input will be just my fast personal gut opinion, and obviously because this is just a table I won't be able to express the full nuance of everything I think, plus I might change my mind over time.
