Bangla WikiConnect
Bangla Wiki Connect is committed to promoting and enriching free knowledge across multiple platforms, including Bangla Wikipedia, Wikivoyage, Wiktionary, Wikibooks, and Wikiquote. As a community-driven initiative, we will organize a variety of edit-a-thons, writing contests, and workshops each year, with the goal of expanding and improving Bengali-language content on Wikimedia projects. Our mission is to provide accessible, high-quality information while fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment that encourages community participation. By supporting both new and experienced editors through structured projects and training initiatives, we aim to sustain the growth of the free knowledge movement and strengthen the presence of Bengali-language resources on Wikimedia platforms. We will also collaborate with the Wikimedia Bangladesh Foundation and WikiNandini, a women's wiki group.
Over the years, we have faced many problems to initiate a new grant for a new project like funding delays, and logistical conflicts, making it difficult to ensure consistency and efficiency across projects. Recognizing these challenges, we initiated a collective effort to streamline our activities through a year-long, unified project under Bangla Wiki Connect. This shift was further reinforced by the Wikimedia Foundation’s recommendation to consolidate grant requests, allowing for better planning and execution of activities. To build this vision, we held a collaborative meeting with some Bangla community's volunteers, where we unanimously agreed to develop a structured initiative that would not only enhance new participation but also nurture leadership, facilitate knowledge-sharing, and strengthen community ties. By integrating various projects under one umbrella, we aim to amplify our impact, improve resource allocation, and create a more efficient, well-supported ecosystem for contributors. Through this initiative, we seek to build a sustainable framework for content development, mentorship, and engagement, ensuring that the Bengali Wikimedia community continues to grow and thrive.
Bangla WikiConnect launches with dedicated volunteers to support free knowledge. We will organize 7–8 contests annually across Bangla Wikipedia, Wikivoyage, Wiktionary, Wikibooks, and Wikiquote.
