I am sorry for the late request, we will do our best to request the next banners 14 days before as per the rules. We are currently discussing the possibility of my banner admin request to take WMCZ banners out of your hands. Best, --janbery (talk) 16:10, 19 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Janbery:
    • Shame on the late request! ;P Two kinds of feedback: The text is longer than in many other banners, is that intended? In my mobile preview, the “Zjistit více” button disappeared which removes the call-to-action; I don't think that this is a good solution.
    • Anyway, you can find the campaign and banner (preview). Please check everything, approve it and ping me so that I can enable the campaign.
    • For the second part of the campaign, please either ping me/the CN admins here or start a new request. We cannot set multiple dates and cannot promise that we don't forget to update the dates. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 10:32, 21 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Grizma (talk) 19:41, 16 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Da hat der Hexer gesagt, is nich so wichtig. 😜 Klar, kann ich machen. Hab ich früher immer gemacht. Grizma (talk) 19:42, 16 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Grizma (talk) 10:05, 20 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Adoscam: Thank you for submitting your request. Before we can progress it, we need additional information because the request template was not completely filled.
    • From looking at the landing, this doesn't look like a campaign for improving articles but for organizing events. Is that correct?
    • You didn't mention the target language(s). French only?
    • Country would be France only, not French nor French-language countries, right?
    • The link to the banner is not very clear to me. Do you mean this banner code? It's made in Wiki code but we need it in HTML/CSS/JavaScript; however, I think that I am capable of converting it.
    • Lastly, you are requesting a campaign of more than 14 days duration. Please note that according to the new CentralNotice guidelines these campaigns require community communication. Please link to a notification of the French community where you also link to this request.
  • Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 19:03, 19 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Adoscam: Small reminder of my questions. :) Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 12:55, 6 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hello@DerHexer. My apologies for the delay in responding. I was less on site these few days.
    • Yes it is not a campaign. But rather a call for participation before the campaign which starts in March 2025.
    • Yes the language is mainly French. If we can add other languages to allow other communities of other language versions to see, that would be a good thing. It is up to *you to see what would be more effective.
    • As for the countries it is France and all the others the French-speaking countries, since it is the French-speaking world that we are talking about.
    • As for the banner yes you can help us in this direction to convert it.
    • As for the number of days, we prefer 14 days to avoid banner fatigue
    • If you have other questions, I remain available. Sincerely.
      • Once again my apologies for the delay in responding.

Description - Wiki Loves Folklore, an annual international photography contest hosted on Wikimedia Commons from February 1st to March 31st, serves as a global initiative to amass a diverse collection of media. The primary objective is to contribute content to Wikipedia and other online platforms, all under free licenses. The contest focuses on capturing and showcasing unique images that represent and document the intangible cultural heritage of various communities worldwide.

Structured with both national coordinators and an International Team, the campaign ensures comprehensive coverage. National coordinators, responsible for organizing Wiki Loves Folklore within their respective countries, play a vital role in fostering local participation. Simultaneously, the International Team steps in to organize the contest in countries lacking designated national coordinators, thereby addressing the representation gap within the Wikimedia ecosystem.

If CN admins could recommend a more suitable communication channel, we'll of course evaluate the option.

The survey will help us gather initial feedback about these users' experience, and recruit them for future in-depth interviews to validate a UI-based solution we've been working on. All in all, the goal is to collect insights to inform the design requirements of a proof of concept (Phabricator task: T381266)

Metrics - We'd like to get at least 10 valid responses to the survey and recruit a minimum of 5 participants from the same target group to participate in future usability testing sessions.

Google forms can't be a landing page for a banner. Per CentralNotice/Usage_guidelines#Banner_requirements, "Wikimedia Domains Only — Banners must link only to Wikimedia Foundation or Affiliate-controlled websites, except when using officially approved surveys (see below). They should not include trademarks owned by for-profit entities." Also, please reach out to your colleague's at the Foundation to agree on the usage of CN for survey's. Non-fundraising campaigns need to be checked, approved and activated by volunteer CN admins, too. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 23:41, 3 December 2024 (UTC) PS: The request template should be filled at some point.[reply]
Thanks for the helpful comments! The request was updated: I added further details regarding our goals and reflected latest decisions (e.g., use of LimeSurvey, change in campaign dates). Conversations with CN coordinators and survey specialists are taking place internally to validate the request or – in lack of approval – find suggestions for alternative channels aligned with our limitations. SSanchez-WMF (talk) 21:28, 5 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Once your CN coordinators have created both the banner as well as the campaign in line with the mentioned guidelines, volunteer CN admins can take a look. The campaign duration looks reasonable and WWikitech is a project which rarely receives banners, so once we hear that the survey itself has been approved, we should be able to give our approval as volunteer CN admins as well.
@TAndic (WMF) fyi, I think the ping probably didn't reach you. Johannnes89 (talk) 18:57, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @Johannnes89 and all! It looks like SSanchez-WMF has added all of the components needed for a survey.
  • @SSanchez-WMF: this banner only displays for Help:Toolforge subpages and not the whole wiki, correct? If yes, I think it would make sense to display at 100% coverage (or a similarly high coverage).
  • I've reviewed the survey and banner (direct link button with privacy statement linked in banner, similar to the 2024 WMDE wikidata survey) and it is approved from the WMF side. The rest is up to CN admins for changes and approval, let me know if I can be helpful with anything :) -TAndic (WMF) (talk) 15:23, 23 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
looks good to me, approved. Johannnes89 (talk) 19:20, 24 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @Johannnes89 and all for helping to guide this! I'll be working with @SSanchez-WMF to help on the survey side, and I agree this seems like a good candidate for a wikitech banner after discussing off-wiki with Sarai :). I assume this request may stay open into January as the team works to get all the components together (in case it's affecting the CN admins' workflows, no action needed for now). - TAndic (WMF) (talk) 19:51, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My apologies for completely misinterpreting @DerHexer's point about filling the survey request template. And thanks for the heads-up and help filling it, @TAndic (WMF). Here's the required information:
What type of survey is this?
Other type (please specify): I want to gather information about a unique population: new Toolforge users (who are not present on other communication channels). We need to understand their experience and challenges to inform the planning of a Wikimedia Foundation project (Toolforge UI).
How many responses do you hope to get?
At least 10 valid responses, with a minimum of 5 participants agreeing to participate in follow-up interviews.
Which populations should the survey banner be displayed to?
Specific criteria: Logged-in and Logged-out users (banner is made to only display on Help:Toolforge subpages on Wikitech)
Which wikis and countries will the banner display to?
Wikitech, no country targeting
Will you be collecting any of these types of data?
Emails – for optional research participation contact)
Demographic information (country) – only for determining whether we can share thank-you gifts for research participation
How will you publish or share your data?
It will only be used internally.
Link to your project page (where the survey will be linked and respondents can find out more about the project): This survey does not have a project page as it's for a small population. The WMF staff email and username for contact is available in both the survey and WMF privacy statement.
Link to your privacy statement** (it can be on the same page as the project page): https://foundation.wikimedia.org/wiki/Legal:Toolforge_UI_Newcomer_Survey_Privacy_Statement

Sarai needed some JS magic, which got more Foundation staff involved, including me - so I thought it didn't make sense to ask for volunteers' time anymore. The banner is created, the campaign is set up, we can consider this request as approved. SGrabarczuk (WMF) (talk) 16:06, 24 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@SGrabarczuk (WMF) I don't want to be overly bureaucratic and from our comments it was basically clear, that we agreed with this campaign, but I want to point out that the new CentralNotice/Usage guidelines (which were revised by CN admins & WMF staff) require volunteer approval for all campaigns with the only exemption being fundraising banners.
If you / other WMF members believe this takes to much time, we should probably start a discussion about further exemptions. But the way the approval guidelines are currently written doesn't leave a different option than asking volunteer CN admins to give their final approval to a prepared campaign + banner (it's of course approved, see my comment above). Best --Johannnes89 (talk) 19:27, 24 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@SGrabarczuk (WMF): Can you please add the links to the campaign, banner and preview here as it is standard practice for any kind of campaigns? Thanks in advance! Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 13:40, 28 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hey @DerHexer 👋🏻 The requested banner links were added to the "What banner(s) will you use? What will be your landing page?" section in the above request. Does that suffice? Thank you! SSanchez-WMF (talk) 16:50, 28 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, as per @Aktron's comment here, this banner should be only shown on Czech Wikipedia. I've made the mistake when copying the last year's request where it is specified for the banner to be shown in Czech Republic and Slovakia, but only in Czech language. I mixed it up and selected Czech and Slovak language. Banner has been disabled on Slovak Wikipedia, sorry for the inconvenience. janbery (talk) 10:39, 21 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Johannnes89: could you please check this again? best --Christian Philipp (WMAT) (talk) 10:57, 28 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the ping @Christian Philipp (WMAT)! We appreciate if @Manfred Werner (WMAT) creates the campaign & banner via the CentralNotice interface, once Meta:Requests for CentralNotice adminship/Manfred Werner (WMAT) is successful. It just needs approval from volunteer CN admins per CentralNotice/Usage guidelines#Policies for Affiliates and WMF Staff, but can be created & managed by yourself.
Per CentralNotice/Usage guidelines campaigns running longer than two weeks usually require community approval. Even if this is an established campaign, the unusually long duration should be discussed with the de(-AT) community.
Personally I think the duration might be ok, if the banner is running on a low impression diet and with limited traffic, in order to make sure it doesn't annoy editors (and readers) again and again for many weeks... Johannnes89 (talk) 18:40, 2 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Johannnes89: @Christian Philipp (WMAT): I have written a notification to the community on de.wikipedia for this banner and also for the second campaign in January (CentralNotice/Request/GLAM digital spring) at Wikipedia:Projektdiskussion. As I am new to this I am not sure how to ask for approval from volunteer CN admins (I could ping some from the list of admins, but I don't know who is active). --Manfred Werner (WMAT) (talk) 12:56, 9 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. You can create both the banner as well as the campaign via the CN admin interface. Once you link the created campaign & banner on this page, volunteer CN admins can take a look. If no-one reacts, you can ping one of the active CN admins mentioned at CentralNotice/Request, preferably (or Ciell who is not on the list, but also active and very helpful as well). Johannnes89 (talk) 19:06, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have changed the start date of the campaign in January from 1st to 7th, also talked about it with Christian. It's because I am on vacation around new year's eve and have very limited internet access in this time, so it would be difficult to act if there are issues with the banner or the campaign. --Manfred Werner (WMAT) (talk) 13:22, 16 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Manfred Werner (WMAT): Banner is activated, thanks. There was a problem last year with the banner conflicting with coordinates at the upper right corner of a page (difficult to see, not clickable), which I thought, I have fixed by adding some extra empty space below the banner. But obviously this does not work. Do you have a better idea to fix this? best --Christian Philipp (WMAT) (talk) 10:03, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The campaign settings have been set [11] and the banner created [12]. CN admins, please take a look and let me know if it is alright like this. It's the first time I created a CN. Thank you! --Manfred Werner (WMAT) (talk) 15:36, 13 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Martin Urbanec:@Vermont: Hi, as I am new to this and also that kind of CN admin who is here in the role of a representative of an affiliate, I need and would like to ask you to take a look at the two campaigns I have set up - if they are alright (also technically, I am not sure about the close button here) and can be activated. Thank you! --Manfred Werner (WMAT) (talk) 17:37, 18 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good to me. I don't see a close button in the CN interface preview for some reason, but it works in the onwiki preview [13].
Restarting the banner cycle every week effectively means users will see the banner 12 times which seems a bit much to me. I suggest either limiting it to two impressions per cycle (= 8 total impressions in 3,5 weeks) or extending the cycle a bit, e.g. to 67435200 seconds (1.5 weeks -> 9 total impressions). Johannnes89 (talk) 11:49, 30 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! I have reduced the maximum impressions to two.
So, I am just asking again because I am new to this, what should be done now? Will someone activate the campaign?
There is also another one I created that should have begun today, CentralNotice/Request/GLAM digital spring, but is still marked as open. --Manfred Werner (WMAT) (talk) 16:46, 6 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I've activated the campaign, giving my approval as a volunteer CN admin.
I suggest trying to ping volunteer CN admins again for the GLAM request (those without ties to WMF or affiliates like WMDE). Perhaps checking the different CN logs [14] helps finding someone active. The backlog at CNR suggests, that most volunteer CN admins are currently busy, but given that it's just about approving the banner + campaign you created, there should be somebody who can spend 5 minutes to do that. I have two questions regarding the banner:

  • is it possible to only show the banner on, let's say, 5th refresh on the projects? We don't want to spam the users with the banner on every page, if possible; if not, showing on every page is fine.
  • this banner is almost definitely not dark mode compatible - can someone help me with that?
