What is the purpose of the campaign? How will you measure the success of the campaign?
editThis year, the theme is Educate Africa: Nurturing Minds for the 21st Century, is in line with this year’s African Union Day theme and is also a part of the African Union’s Agenda 2063. The African Union, under the Agenda 2063 seeks to create revitalized, high-quality, and unified educational systems that meet the needs of Africa, generate acceptable attitudes, values, knowledge, and skills, and support the continent's participation in the international economy of knowledge. With the Africa Wiki Challenge 2024, our objective is to call attention to and recognize the diverse educational perspectives in Africa, encouraging the sharing of information and expertise through engaging content contributions.
What banner(s) will you use? What will be your landing page?

edit- @Kaffzz: Thank you for your CentralNotice request. Unfortunately, you seem to have missed adding significant information to the request (targeted Wiki projects, languages, countries, anonymous/registered users, etc.). Please complete your request so that we can give better feedback. Some general remarks:
- Translations: Campaigns can only be displayed in projects and languages where banner and landing page have the respective translations. Your banner is English only so far.
- Community involvement: For that reason we recommend to reach out early to local communities for their approval to be included into the campaign (see Wikimedia projects for easier access to village pumps). We also recommend ambassadors to local wikis as in other global campaigns.
- Banners: We CentralNotice administrators cannot use GIFs for creating the banners, we need HTML/CSS/JavaScript versions (including cookie-based close buttons). Besides the fact that they wouldn't be usable in mobile campaigns (and I assume that you also want to target mobile users, as a majority uses these devices). Furthermore, we will not display banners with such wild movement of elements that could be misunderstood as ads. Please reduce the noise in the design.

- Hello @DerHexer, thank you for your response. I appreciate the feedback.
- The other part of the information section skipped me. Thank you for the prompt. However, I have filled in all the details now.
- Translations: For now, we would prefer the banner to be only in English. We seek to translate it into French as well but for the sake of time, just English is fine.
- Community involvement: Well noted, we have started reaching out.
- Banners: Well noted, I have switched the design totally to something simpler. Also, it is no longer in GIF form. Kindly let me know if this okay.
- Best Regards Kaffzz (talk) 17:35, 10 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Kaffzz: Thanks for some clarifications! :) Some more remarks:
- Unfortunately, you haven't said if you want to target “Logged In Users” and/or “Anonymous Users” I read “Banner can be showed” which I don't understand.
- You want to target English and French projects but your banner is English only. We can only enable the campaign for those languages available in the banner and landing page (which is English-only as well right now).
- Take a look at the preview of the banner. Other than recommended, you didn't provide HTML/CSS/JavaScript but a new GIF. It is technically possible to display the banner but it really doesn't look good. On mobile devices the banner is much too wide. We could only enable it on desktop devices. What do you think about this?
- If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask me. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 19:09, 16 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hello Dexter,
- Thank you for your response.
- The banner can be displayed to both Logged In Users and Anonymous Users.
- Also, the banner targets only the English projects.
- The new banner is in an image format and not a GIF Format. I redesigned the banner like you recommended and changed it from a GIF format. Also, it is quite difficult to design it in HTML/CSS/JAVAScript from my end, I will appreciate it if you have a look at the current image display as I have resized it to be more appealing.
- Looking forward to your support and help. Kaffzz (talk) 19:09, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Kaffzz, using an image which includes text still leads to the same problem: Depending on your screen size and device it will look very bad for some people, especially on mobile devices, because your image cannot adapt to different screen sizes.
- If you want such a complex banner you will need to design it using HTML/CSS/JavaScript. If that's not possible we can create a simple banner for you, using an icon/logo/small image + some text separately, e.g. like this [1][2].
- If you want us to create such a simple banner, we would need to know:
- icon
- background colour
- 1-2 short lines of text

- Thank you @Johannnes89
- A simple banner will do.
- icon - File:AFRICA WIKI CHALLENGE LOGO.svg (left corner) File:OFWA New Logo Resized.png (right corner)
- background colour - #FFA500
- 1-2 short lines of text - Join the Africa Wiki Challenge, 2024. Theme: Educate Africa: Nurturing Minds for the 21st Century
- Thank you for your response and I'm looking forward to the banner. Kaffzz (talk) 09:49, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Kaffzz I've created the campaign [3] and the banner [4] (preview [5], mobile preview [6]).
- Please check the campaign settings if everything is alright – especially if I targeted the correct countries. I had to choose manually from a long list of alphabetically ordered countries, so there's a risk I've missed some or perhaps misclicked... And please check if the banner preview is displayed correctly on your device. Johannnes89 (talk) 12:26, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you so much @Johannnes89, this is perfect however I'll like to add the timeline of the campaign as well since it is currently in session and change the color code. Everything else works.
- Timeline- May 25th to 30th June, 2024
- Color Code- #F2F1EB
- Thank you once again for your assistance. Kaffzz (talk) 14:17, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Kaffzz it should rather be less text than more. While it looks ok on desktop [7], it doesn't on mobile devices [8]. Usually there should be no more than 2 lines with no more than 50-70 characters each (preferably less). Johannnes89 (talk) 22:32, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
- Alright that's fine. We can go ahead and publish it. Thank You @Johannnes89 Kaffzz (talk) 18:04, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
- I'm really unhappy about the text length, but given that the challenge has already started I've enabled the campaign. Johannnes89 (talk) 15:11, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
