Description - The next step in the mw:Talk pages project is to make it easier for editors to use talk pages by providing discussion-specific information (e.g., how many editors participated in a discussion) and by making talk pages not look like articles (in the hope that newcomers will figure out what the pages are for). We need to get non-English speakers to look at some ideas and tell us what's wrong with them. This is the first of several similar requests we are planning.

Metrics - the number of people who submit feedback about the prototype (hoping for 20!)

What banner(s) will you use? What will be your landing page?

edit
Banners - File:Wikimedia talk page empty state graphic.svg plus the following Arabic text (see phab:T301594):

نحتاج إلى رأيك! ساعدنا في تحسين صفحات النقاش من خلال مشاركة الملاحظات حول تصميم جديد لعناوين الأقسام.

(Translation: We need your opinion! Help us improve talk pages by sharing feedback about a new design for section headings.)

Landing Page - https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Talk_pages_project/Usability/Prototype/Topic_Containers/ar?uselang=ar for the first banner; later changed to https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Talk_pages_project/Usability/Prototype/ar?uselang=ar

Type of grant - none

Link to grant - none

User:PPelberg (WMF) and I have just started talking about the specific requirements, but I wanted to get this on wiki without any further delay. Since we want to get on-wiki responses, it might make sense to limit this banner to slightly more experienced editors (e.g., with 10+ monthly edits?). This should run at some normal, sensible rate.

User:Dyolf77 (WMF), this shouldn't require anything to be posted to arwiki, except perhaps one brief announcement on 28 February or 1 March to say that it's happening/give the link for anyone who missed the banner. I hope you will have time to help with translating the target page into Arabic.

It's possible that this will be delayed, but I think I can safely promise that it won't happen any sooner than this. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 23:59, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
