Free access to government works

Government Works and the Public Domain

edit

As a community we would like to see all works published by governments and their institutions as well as by the European Union become freely available to anybody for any purpose. Unlike the US government, where all released documents are automatically part of the public domain, in the EU such works are by default copyrighted.

Task Force

edit

We are currently looking for volunteers to make up the PD-Gov task force which will analyse the current legal and political situation and come up with a plan full of concrete actions how to improve it. If you are passionate about freeing more public works and making them freely usable on Wikipedia and by the whole world, please join this group by signing below. You don't necessarily need much time or special skills, all you need is motivation! Tasks and next steps will be agreed upon once a project lead is found.
