Abstract
editNDEC Wikipedia Editorial and Research Team: An experiment on wikimedia education
editThe impact of Wikimedia Education extends beyond traditional coursework in higher education and teachers' training, embracing a novel dimension through extracurricular activities, an aspect yet to be fully explored. Notre Dame English Club's Wikipedia Editorial and Research Team (NDEC WERT) has experimenting in this uncharted territory, presenting their multi-year experience as a case study. Integrating Wikimedia into educational curricula faces challenges, particularly in environments with limited awareness of open knowledge. Extracurricular Wikimedia initiatives were proved to be fruitful in such scenarios, offering boundless possibilities for exploration without rigid constraints. This characteristic unleashes a vast pool of human resources, providing valuable contributions to the open knowledge movement. Worldwide, various extracurricular Wikimedia organizations operate, each contributing to this global endeavor. NDEC WERT specifically focuses on cultivating professional skills in young high schoolers, aiming to shape them into future professionals in the realm of open knowledge.
