The WikiWomen's User Group (WWUG) presents bi-monthly capacity-building session is designed to enhance the skills and knowledge of women in the Wikimedia community, focusing on Wikimedia projects and tools, tricks, and tips. This initiative will consist of a series of webinars, workshops, and discussions, bringing together experts from various fields to provide valuable insights on diverse thematic areas through collaborations and partnerships with other user groups.
Objectives
edit- Empower Women Contributors by strengthening the presence and impact of women in the Wikimedia space by providing them with the necessary skills and knowledge on various Wikimedia projects and tools.
- Offer targeted training sessions that cover editing, content creation, and the use of Wikimedia tools. The main language on Wiki will be English, and training sessions will be hosted for different wikimedia projects such as Wikipedia, Wikidata, and Wikimedia Commons. The sessions will be led by various experts in our movement.
- Equip participants with advanced knowledge of Wikipedia projects and tools, enabling them to contribute more effectively.
- Create opportunities for women to connect, collaborate, and learn from experts and peers within the Wikimedia community.
Activities
edit- Monthly Virtual Workshops/Webinars: These will focus on specific tips and tricks for editing English Wikipedia, linking Wikipedia articles with wikidata and uploading images wikimedia Commons and Wikipedia. This will include sessions like how to:
- (a) create a biography about a woman (how to establish notability; find references)
- (b) improve articles about women's issues, e.g., women's health; women's suffrage
- (d) create an article about a work created by (or founded by) a woman, e.g., painting, poem, school, conference
- (e) create Wikidata items for notable women. What websites to look at for inspiration.
