What does it take to implement a Wiki Loves Monuments Contest?

In order to learn more about the inputs that went into planning workshops, we asked program leaders to report on the budget, human resource hours, and donations that went into implementing program events.

Budget edit	Reported budgets were available for almost half of Wiki Loves Monuments contests. The average national contest cost just over $4,600 to implement. Reported budgets were available for 31 of the Wiki Loves Monuments contests (43%). These ranged from $260 to $29,099 USD, with an average of $4,618 USD. ^[1] (2013^[2], 2014^[3])

Hours edit	Time inputs were reported for about 20% of contests. The average number of staff hours spent on running a Wiki Loves Monuments contest in 2013 and 2014 was 50, while the average for volunteer hours was 200. We obtained data on number of staff hours used in organizing Wiki Loves Monuments contests for 15 program implementations (21%) and volunteer hours input for 18 program implementations (25%). Staff hours input ranged from 0 to 240, with an average of 50 ^[4], while volunteer hours input ranged from 0 to 945, with an average of 200.^[5] (2013 ^[6], 2014^[7])

Donated resources edit	The majority of Wiki Loves Monuments implementations relied on donated resources, most commonly, meeting space and materials or equipment. Most of the 26 Wiki Loves Monuments contests who reported data on donated resources used them in some form (85%). As the graph below shows, more than half of the program implementations reported using donated meeting space and donated materials or equipment (54%). Nearly half (46%) reported using donated prizes/giveaways and 15% used food donations. Graph: Use of donated resources.
