editIn many parts of the world, western medical care is either unaffordable or non-existent. Western medications may only be available in large cities or on the black market. Imagine a world where Wikipedia can provide accurate health information for women, infants, and families in places where it does not exist. What an opportunity to make a difference in the world. While we're at it, can we establish standards for these articles in terms of content and images? For example, shouldn't health articles about the reproductive system avoid sexualized images in favor of medical illustrations that illustrate the anatomical structures in the articles? And how many images do you need for one article? (See the enwiki article on labia for example) What about sexual predatory practices? Should articles on negging or child grooming read like "how-to" manuals? Maybe someone could start by making a list of the top 25 health and community safety problems of developing countries and assessing the quality of their respective articles. —Neotarf (talk) 23:52, 20 June 2016 (UTC)
- having talked to proposer, i think she means Community Health support group, as a euphemism for civility writ large, as a response to editor decline. Slowking4 (talk) 00:35, 22 June 2016 (UTC)
- Ah, yes, that occurred to me after I saw the harassment classification. (In many places "community health" and "public health" are closely related). In that case my support still stands, but as usual the devil is in the details. There seems to be some consensus with the Foundation that what is needed is a combination of education and technology.
- This is a project well worth funding.
- Here are a few links from my personal blog, maybe this group would find useful:
- [1]"Advice for the accidental community manager" by Jessamyn West (if you only read one, read this one)
- [2]"If your website’s full of assholes, it’s your fault", by Anil Dash
- [3]"Nine principles for action", 8-minute video excerpt from Bill Moyers interview of Carne Ross, author of The Leaderless Revolution, (transcript on my blog).
