Candidates March-April 2014

edit

Hi! I'm a veteran from the English Wikipedia. Started back in August 2007. Not much involvement with WMF-type things although I did visit the office last summer. I have an economics and finance background and around 10,000 edits in a variety of subject areas. My activity level has waxed and waned a bit based on the demands of the working world after life as a student, but I'm trying to pitch in and get more involved again with Wikipedia and WMF. Currently serving on the board a small environmental nonprofit in the United States along with some other volunteering (and managed to do a little editing of mark-to-market accounting today!) but I would like to squeeze some time in to review grants. hello, I am a wikipedian from Moldova, small landlocked country in Eastern Europe, not far from the Crimeea (if you are following the news you know what I am talking about). I am active in the Wikipedia in Romanian. In my normal life I am working in the NGOs in Moldova, mainly youth, activism, human rights and ecology. I have experience in evaluating applications, project management and financial management. I would like to use my skills in Wikimedia Foundation and to contribute to the goals of the movement.

Hi ! I'm an admin in Commons and French Wikipedia, former of the board of Wikimédia France, current member of the micro-grants program of the chapter and its programm evaluation team, and also involved in GLAM and local programms. My implication in the Wikimedia movement is strong :) but I'm looking for a way to be involved "internationally" (not counting writting FDC reports :)).

Hello, I am a bureaucrat on the Arabic wikipedia, I was part of the bidding and organizing team for Wikimania 08, I also helped with various efforts regarding the middle east outreach including Google's translation initiative. I am also part of the team who maintains a popular editing contest on the Arabic wikipedia which has sustained good outcome, the funding of which has been through WMF grants for the last couple of years. --Shipmaster (talk) 04:22, 25 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi. I'm a Wikipedian since 2004, mostly on Estonian Wikipedia, where I've been an admin since the same year. I have made about 26,000 edits and created about 1600 new articles there, but now I'm almost retired. In 2011-14 I was a board member of Wikimedia Eesti, so I have some experience in writing grants, dealing with WMF and GAC, and also cooperating with many other organizations, both Wikimedian and others. I would like to think I speak and write Estonian, English and Russian more or less well, and can understand some other languages to certain extent. I have worked as a translator, editor, journalist, PR specialist, etc. I've been active in several NGOs (including a stint as the head of the audit committee of a political party) yet have reduced the workload to minimum now. Currently, I'm working fulltime in local government and writing my M.A. thesis in philosophy.
When I was suggested to join GAC, I was reluctant and pondered about it for quite some time. In the end, I decided to give it a try, because I believe that by introducing more systematic approach and clearer guidelines, both for the applicants and itself, GAC could benefit the whole movement. Let's see if I can be useful somehow. --Oop (talk) 14:21, 25 March 2014 (UTC)
