General information
editThis form is for organizations, groups, or individuals receiving Wikimedia Community Funds or Wikimedia Alliances Funds to report on their final results.
- Name of Organization: Philippine Wikimedia Community Inc.
- Title of Proposal: PhilWiki Community Annual Plan 2023
- Amount awarded: 31856 USD, 1777820 PHP
- Amount spent: 1886558.34 PHP
Part 1 Understanding your work
edit1. Briefly describe how your proposed activities and strategies were implemented.
We implemented our programs and strategies by identifying our priorities, addressing skill gaps, focusing on achieving the objectives through cost-effective strategies, improving the organizational structure, cultivating the harmonious relationship with community members, and documenting the results and measuring our impact.
2. Were there any strategies or approaches that you felt were effective in achieving your goals?
We found our 5Ps strategy to be effective in achieving our goals. The activities aiming for a common and specific goal were put in one bucket regardless whether they overlap with another program. The advocacy and education programs were effective in raising the awareness about Wikimedia projects and our movement. The diversity and outreach programs were successful in increasing participation among new and existing community members. Partnership fits well with our GLAM program creating opportunities for collaboration with academic institutions and cultural heritage organizations. Addressing skills gaps, improving our internal processes, and having a good fiscal management have increased our capacity in pursuing the mission and vision of the organization.
3. Would you say that your project had any innovations? Are there things that you did very differently than you have seen them done by others?
We conduct two related activities with different audiences or participants in one occasion to address cost-effectiveness and sustainability. One good example of this is the WikiGap and EduWiki events wherein the activities were held in the same venue, one after the other. Another best practice that we do is building partnership with institutions which offer their resources and facilities, and with organizations which connect us to a broad network of volunteers.
4. Please describe how different communities participated and/or were informed about your work.
Through different community outreach activities and regular, annual and year-end meetings, as well as our dedicated Meta and social media channels, different communities were informed about our work. We were able to reach new audience through the advocacy and education programs by partnering with institutions and organizations in promoting our efforts in preserving our cultural heritage, and using Wikimedia as platform in the dissemination of free knowledge. New community members were immersed in different offline and online activities year-round, and in in-person meetings as we organize and implement our activities. Activities are documented and disseminated through our social media pages, and Meta.
5. Documentation of your impact. Please use the two spaces below to share files and links that help tell your story and impact. This can be documentation that shows your results through testimonies, videos, sound files, images (photos and infographics, etc.) social media posts, dashboards, etc.

N/A
Part 2: Your main learning
edit8. In your application, you outlined your learning priorities. What did you learn about these areas during this period?
We learned that since last year, our Annual Plan has been consistent with the strategic direction of Movement Strategy, centering on the goals of knowledge equity and knowledge as a service. Our strategy is simplified into 5Ps or Promotion - Participation - Partnership - Pursuit of Purpose. With this strategy, we were able to focus on our priorities and execute the programs according to the plan.
9. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities?
We have collaborated with different institutions and organizations, new and old partners, in promoting the Wikimedia movement in varied approaches. Working with these partners gave a boost in our campaigns leading to a more sustainable collaboration.
10. How do you hope to use this learning? For instance, do you have any new priorities, ideas for activities, or goals for the future?
We hope to continue our approach and focus on our priorities in the next years while refining the activities that bring an impactful result to the community as well as the Wikimedia projects. We are determined in cultivating the partnerships and relationships that have been created out of mutual trust, respect and aspirations. Among our priorities are GLAM-Wiki, WILMA and Wiki Education.
11. If you were sitting with a friend to tell them one thing about your work during this fund, what would it be (think of inspiring or fascinating moments, tough challenges, interesting anecdotes, or anything that feels important to you)?
Our community's first general support fund grant was 8 years in the making! We went through all sweat and blood in achieving our shared mission. We worked so hard and made sacrifices, opened opportunities for others and lost valuable time and energy, and that is all for the aspirations for an inclusive community. However, all these challenges did not deter us. From our learnings, we were able to get back on track with a clear vision for the community and the movement.
12. Please share resources that would be useful to share with other Wikimedia organizations so that they can learn from, adapt or build upon your work. For instance, guides, training material, presentations, work processes, or any other material the team has created to document and transfer knowledge about your work and can be useful for others. Please share any specific resources that you are creating, adapting/contextualizing in ways that are unique to your context (i.e. training material).
