Request changes
editWe understand that sometimes plans change. Please use this button to request approval for changes to your grant’s budget while your project is in progress. Any variation of 20% or more to any line item in your budget must be approved by staff here before you make the change (for projects with budgets of $15,000 or more, the accepted variance is 10%).
Budget change request
editWe would like to shift funds approved for the salary of a full-time Wikimedian-in-Residence to use over an extended grant period (requested here) toward the salary of a part-time WiR and the creation of two graduate student fellowships.
Rationale
editThe approved grant allows for $40,000 to support a full-time Wikimedian-in-Residence at $4,000/month for 10 months from August 2020–May 2021. We have needed to restructure our Wikimedian-in-residence position from full-time to part-time (20 hours/week at $2,000/month) and included a two-month provisional period (10 hours/week at $1,000/month). Given the reduced hours/pay rate, we will be underbudget by $16,000 at the end of the current grant period. We would like to continue with our current WiR at part-time (20 hours/week at $2,000/month) through December 2021 at a cost of $12,000 (and we have a new project grant proposal currently under review that includes funding for the remainder of the 2021-22 academic year). With an eye beyond that period, we would like to repurpose the remaining $4,000 to pilot graduate student fellowships as a potential model for providing training, support, and engagement for the community of expert editors we are bringing to Wikipedia that might phase in before our WiR phases out. We could fund two fellowships for 2021-22 with annual stipends of $2,000 each (and our new project grant proposal also includes funding for additional graduate fellows).
Approved
editThis budget change request is approved, allowing you to use $40,000 in funds originally intended for a full-time Wikimedian-in-Residence salary to instead cover a part-time Wikimedian-in-Residence at a total of $36,000 for an extended period of time, plus two graduate student fellowships at $2,000 each. -Marti (WMF) (talk) 20:26, 4 March 2021 (UTC)
