Goals

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?

Yes we were able to create awareness of Wikimedia Projects among the participants that attended the summit. We also succeeded in recruiting about 30 new editors. It was great being hosted at a women's gathering where the challenge and steps to bridging the digital gender gap were discussed. The summit organizers were very helpful in providing two spacious rooms with projectors at Labadi beach for the English and French Wikipedia workshops.However, many of the participants did not bring their laptops as we requested in the conference communication materials.

20 or more attendees	about 80 attendees	The summit organizers structured the workshops such that participants could rotate between workshops. So we had different sets of attendees showing up for the three days, about 20 participants for each day.
20 or more editors	about 30 editors	We were able to recruit 30 new editors, who made their first edits on Wikipedia.
Create 5 new articles and improve 10	Created 2 new articles	Only few of the participants brought their laptops and so they were unable to apply what we thought them there and then by creating articles or improving existing ones.
2 or more partners	3 potential partners	We are currently in communication with Isaac Keldzi of African Feeds(a news portal), the CEO of Ghana Code Club (Ernestina Appiah) and the IFAP chair (Dorothy Gordon) concerning future collaborations. African feeds has agreed to support us with an upcoming research project, the IFAP is helping us acquire an ICT lab to run the Twi Wikpedia Translatathon and Ernestina Appiah is interested in organizing a Wikipedia Training workshop for the girls of Ghana Code Club.

Learning

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

• What did not work so well?
• What would you do differently next time?

The attendance was good and it was so wonderful meeting potential partners. However, many of the attendees did not bring their laptops and so we were unable to get them to create and improve existing articles. Most of them used their phones to create accounts on Wikipeda which wasn't easy. We tried to avoid this as much s possible by sending reminders through the conference communication materials. Secondly, the workshops were structured such that we had two hours each day; Day 1 and Day 2, we had different set of participants showing up and so we had to repeat what was thought on day 1 to the new set of participants. This structure did not give us enough time to take participants from knowing nothing about Wikipedia to creating their first articles. Next time, we would focus more on teaching participants how to edit and improve existing articles instead of creating new ones.

The funds remaining from this grant in the amount of $42 USD were deducted from another grant payment for Grants:Project/Rapid/Celestinesucess/Twi Wikipedia Translatathon.

We have 42 USD remaining. We would like to retain funds to support upcoming projects like the Twi Wikipedia Translatathon.
