Project Goal
editChoose one or more of the following goals. You can add or delete goals as needed.
- Invite new editors with the same advocacy on preserving healthy environment and prospect editors coming from different civic organizations for human rights.
- Some participants have already been part of previous edit-a-thons and this project will further improve our skills on organizing and conducting this type of event.
- Add and improve existing articles on human rights, environmental issues, and biographies of people who have been part of this advocacy. Content translation tool will also be used to create local versions of best articles in English. Local users who aren’t familiar with English language will have the chance to utilize the translated articles.
Project Plan
editActivities
editTell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:
1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?
We are planning to conduct four series of edit-a-thons with one or two online lectures to supplement the need for additional knowledge on environmental issues. There are two environmental organizations here in our area which we plan to invite, the Susog Salog in Naga City and Project Susog in Buhi.
2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.
- This activity will have a social media page and this will also be announced through community portals and Telegram groups.
3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.
- Personal invitations will be sent either through FB Messenger, text messaging, and direct invitations. Previous participants of local edit-a-thons will also be invited.
This event was announced through the BCL community portal.
4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals.
- Yes, User:Kunokuno and User:Sherlock808 are very much willing to help for this cause.
5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?
- Yes, wiki-tutorial videos will be provided. We have also participated before in edit-a-thons and also been editing articles from time to time. We only need devices to conduct this event aside from those we personally own.
6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?
- Evaluation form will always be provided every after the session so we can track which parts we need to improve and provide focus on tutorials. A private messenger group will also be created and for those who does not have social media accounts, a mobile phone number for contact will be provided. The edit count and number of created articles will be monitored on the project dashboard and on the local Wikipedia page.
7. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:
- Yes, there will be in-person events but we will limit the participants for each event from 8–10 persons since this is what our local health protocol is suggesting for this type of events.
8. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?
- I hope this will be a success and would be a big contribution for the international campaign of #WikiForHumanRights 2021. Since this is my first time to conduct an edit-a-thon, I also hope to gain some skills as community organizer for the Wikimedia.
Impact
editHow will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets:
- Number of events: Four edit-a-thons and two online lectures
- Number of participants: 30–40 participants with 2 organizers
- Number of new editors: I expect to invite 15–20 new editors
- Number of of articles created or improved: 100-150 articles depending on the pace of new editors, 10 new articles as output for the insights and information gathered during the lecture
- Number of repeat participants (for projects that include a series of events): 10 repeat participants
Resources
editWhat resources do you have? Include information on who is organizing the project, what they will do, and if you will receive support from anywhere else (in-kind donations or additional funding).
- Two Wikimedians will assist me during the duration of the event. User:Sherlock808 who have conducted an activity with almost similar theme may provide me with best practices I could also adapt. User:Kunokuno have also oriented me with the basic guidelines and procedures during request. The local Central Bikol Wikipedia community has three spare laptops which can be utilized during planning stage and the actual edit-a-thon.
What resources do you need? For your funding request, list bullet points for each expense and include a total amount.
- 1. Food and Drinks = PHP 400 (lunch and snacks) for 4 sessions with 8–10 participants = PHP 16,000.00
