Activities

edit
  1. What community or communities will be involved in this movement strategy discussion(s)?
Active members of the Kenyan Wikimedia Community will be involved in identifying and prioritizing recommendations to work on as a country.
  2. How will you make sure everyone is invited?
We are in direct contact with all the active members and will invite them via social media, phone calls & emails then follow up using a text message & reminders on social media.
  3. How will you document community discussion(s) and feedback related to movement strategy? Who will be responsible for documenting these discussions?
We have allocated a portion of the funds to get a rapporteur who will document the sessions discussions. We shall then compile into a final document/format that will be published on meta.
  4. What is your facilitation plan to support productive discussions around movement strategy? Please also provide a link to a Friendly Space Policy that will be implemented to support these discussions.
We shall have a regional consultant to provide capacity building in helping us structure our community and consolidate our members so that we are all moving and working as a consolidated team/group. We will refer all the participants to the Friendly Space Policy.
  5. If you are requesting funding for online tools or services to support participation, please describe these services and how they will be used. If not, please write N/A.
We shall create graphic images to be used in email and social media campaigns to spread the word about the event and help reach out other wikimedians in Kenya. For the virtual meetup, some participants will need support for mobile data packages that will be provided to them via this grant.
  6. If you are translating movement strategy materials, in what languages will you be supporting translation? Who will be responsible for doing the translations? If not, please write N/A.
We will not be translating any strategy materials as the session is in english. All participants are conversant with english.
  7. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined in the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:
Our first meeting will be an inperson event btargeting only 10 people or less so we shall follow local health guidelines for Kenya
  1. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?
This meeting will also provide a great platform to have key discussions in the structuring of the Kenyan Wikimedia community as we seek to be recognized as a user group. This will be a key step in positioning our community in line with Wikimedia's 2030 strategy.
