Follow-up questions

Dear Ms Kabintie, thank you so much for applying for a movement strategy rapid grant to organize an event in Kenya. It is great to see continued engagement following the East Africa Strategy Summit 2019 and we look forward to hearing your further input and engagement in the process.

We have reviewed the grant application and I have some follow-up questions regarding this:

• I would like to understand better what is the plan for the event. What is the planned agenda? What are the topic areas you plan to cover? What will be the balance between informing participants about the movement strategy recommendations and actual prioritization workshop?
• I am a bit confused regarding the mix of an in-person event and online meetups. What part of the event will be in-person? What will be taken to the online space?
• Based on the application I don't have a full clarity regarding the facilitation of the meeting. Who will be facilitating the meeting?
• You mention regional consultant for capacity building. I would really like to learn more about that role. What are the planned activities? Who will be providing the service?
• The budget is generally clear, but I would like to learn more about the planned cost of data packages. At the same time most of the costs are currently listed under the line "other" - what is the breakdown of that budget item? What are the specific costs calculated there?

Thanks KVaidla (WMF) for your feedback. Ideally, we had hoped to hold our events prior to the global meetings but we were still adviced that we can still proceed with the plans event after the meetings.

Our plan was to have two meetings ; one in person and the other virtual. The in person meeting was targeting only 10 active "users" or "representatives" in the wikimedia community in Kenya. These are individuals who my fellow co-ordinator for these Prioritisation events User:TeriWanderi are aware of. This includes individuals who have organised contests and edit-a-thons and might have a reach to other wikipedians in our jurisdiction. The goal of this meeting was to have a discussion on the 2030 strategy and identify our prioritisation areas as well as familiarise the "representatives" who might not be aware of the recomendations. Considering that Kenya currently does not have a user group, we also planned to leverage on this meet up to discuss and syngergise our activities and seek to be recognised as a user group.

I personally believe that approaching the 2030 strategy and giving our prioritisation areas as a coordinated group will be more effective especially when it comes to the implementation of the initiatives in our community. This coordination also aligns to some of the recommendations that majority of our members are in favour of like recommendation 6-Investing in leadership and capacity building. As a community, we will be bettert placed to implemnt this area when we have had an internal mapping of existing talents and identified our gaps for global mentroship and that can only be done from a coordinate approach. 

The online meeting (webinar) was to follow the inperson meeting with the "respresentatives", and it's need was informed by INCULUSIVITY. The e-meeting was going to target everyone; both existing wikipedians and potential ones who show interest and also new editors recruited during recent edit-a-thons like the afrocine and wiki loves monuments. We plan to advertise the webinar on our social media platforms and try to reach as many young people as possible. Introduce them to the 2030 strategy recommendations and have a conversation on the prioritisation areas. I must say that we have actually been doing this prior to the weekend's global meetings and trying to engage memebers via whasApp and email to get their views but we still feel the need to host the webinar eventually and ensure our community members are well informed.

Regarding FACILITATION, myself and User:TeriWanderi will lead the meetings, we have been engaging in the priotisation meetings for different user groups both regionally and internationally and are well informed. We also both were part of 5 repsentatives from Kenya who representated our community at the EA 2030 Stratgey in Kampala. We also plan to invite Mehrdad from the Movement Strategy Transition Support Team to join us in the virtual meeting.

On the REGIONAL CONSULTANT bit, in view of the picture i've painted above and our goals for the in person meeting, which combine discussions of the 2030 strategy, priotisation workshop and structuring our community, we felt that it would be beneficial to have one of the leaders in our region, either from the Tanzania or Uganda user groups or both, to guide us through this process and provide all the mentorship we might need, owing to the fact that they are more experienced.
