Goals
editWe met our goal of having 15 South Asian versions of Wikipedia participate, but unfortunately lacked the resources, personnel, and connections to help organize offline events and media appearances in South Asia specifically (that we know of). Resources were not necessarily wasted, however, as we underspent on this grant and did not consume all the allocated stipdends due to that lack of personnel.
We have already begun preparations for 2018, including more international organizers and more preliminary preparing - which should allow us to do a better job or offline and media outreach in 2018.
Outcome
editTarget outcome | Achieved outcome | Explanation |
15 South Asian language versions of Wikipedia participating | 15 South Asian language versions of Wikipedia participating (Hindi, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Maithili, Nepali, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Sindhi, Sinhala, Tamil, Telegu, & Urdu) | We hit our target exactly with having 15 South Asian language versions of Wikipedia participate. |
5 offline events in South Asia | 0 offline events in South Asia that we know of, 5 offline events elsewhere | We didn't have the resources, personnel, or connections to help organize offline events in South Asia this year. Offline WAM events we know occurred took place in Jerusalem, Munich, New York City, Hong Kong, and Indonesia. |
2 instances of media coverage in local media | 0 instances of media coverage in local media, 1 Wikimedia blog post | We didn't directly receive media coverage in South Indian media (that we know of), but we did have a feature in the Wikimedia Blog. Other media appearances took place in other regions. |

Finances
editThe finances report for this grant has been combined with the finances for the global grant, for ease of reporting since some spending was overlapped and between many individuals.
