1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?
- The YWCA 150: Feminist Edit-a-thon will be a single event from February 13 (Galentine's Day) to March 8 (International Women's Day), 2021. During the event, we will host one on-boarding training and then provide training materials to participants throughout the active period, as well as one-on-one support and coaching for new editors. We will also be hosting a panel of experts to conclude the event.
2. How will you let your community know about the event? Please paste links below to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions.
- This project is part of a larger youth-driven program called YWCA 150: Look Back, Push Forward (YWCA 150 : De grandes idées pour l'avenir in French). The communities we are engaging are the youth councils and their communities that are already part of this project and co-created this edit-a-thon idea with us. We have been sharing the information for this event internally through our monthly community of practice meetings and bi-weekly newsletters. We will be sharing information for this event externally through YWCA Canada's social media channels. We will sending out a Survey Monkey link via social media to our networks asking for people to nominate people, organizations and events significant to the history of gender equity, to have either their pages edited or created. The list of nominations will be reviewed by YWCA staff, and will be sent out to all participants at the beginning of the event.
3. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event?
- For this event, we are partnering with Art+Feminism that works closely with Wikimedia editors to plan feminist edit-a-thons across the world. We are currently in contact with them about getting an experienced Wikipedian to support with the event. We will provide updates when we confirm who they will be.
4. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?
- Participants do have the equipment to be able to participate in the edit-a-thon. Some participants have the skills to contribute high quality content in French and English, but we will also have training webinars and videos for participants that are new editors. We also have the expertise of Art+Feminism to support our youth participants in getting comfortable with adding or editing new entries and our bilingual project team will be providing individual support and coaching to new editors.
5. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?
- Most participants are part of YWCA youth councils and will continue to be engaged through our larger programming for youth. Other youth from communities that engage in this event will be invited to join YWCA youth councils and other programs like our Think Big! Lead Now! Young Women's National Leadership Program. They will also be invited to subscribe to our newsletter to keep up-to-date on our work and future opportunities to engage. We will, of course, share the overall results of the edit-a-thon with all participants.
6. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:

Impact

Resources
editWhat resources do you have? Include information on who is organizing the project, what they will do, and if you will receive support from anywhere else (in-kind donations or additional funding).
- The project team at YWCA Canada is entirely led by young women and includes one Program Director (bilingual), one Project Coordinator (bilingual), and one Research Coordinator. This team will work with 10 coordinators in local youth councils across Canada to recruit editors, solicit nominations for pages to add or edit, develop promotional content and promote the event on our social media platforms, and monitor the targets of the edit-a-thon. The YWCA team will also work in collaboration with Art+Feminism to provide training, support, and coaching to participants. Salary and promotional costs are covered by funding from the Government of Canada and in-kind by YWCA Canada. Tech and internet/data subsidies to youth councils have been provided by the Telus Friendly Future Foundation.

- For this project, we are requesting a total of $1,300 CAD (or $1,015.63 USD) for the following budget items:
- $15 meal vouchers for 50 participants ($750)
- $100 giftcards for top 3 editors ($300)
- $250 appreciation gift for 1 youth trainer, priority to NEET or underemployed youth (not in education, employment, or training)
