Thank you for putting in a grant application.
As this is the first time applying for the rapid fund grant, would you be able to share more about:
1) Your experience and participation in the Wikimedia movement;

If you have online links to your professional work (i.e. subject matter expertise)/ volunteer experience in documenting similar projects, please also share them here.
3) What are the different wikimedian communities you are working in Indonesia? How are you interracting/ collaboraing with them (individuals/ recognised or unrecognised groups)?
4) How did you learn about the Wikimedia Foundation grants and what motivated you to put in an application?
For this grant application, we would like to share the following:
5) In term of metrics, have you documented or tracked content re-use and how do you track the quality/accuracy (i.e. fact-checking, writing, editing, and proofreading) of your contributions from the project? For example, workflow in assessing quality, offer metrics that can track content re-use/ views in your final report etc.
6) We also recommend putting up a Diff post to share your experiences post project

- Hello @JChen (WMF)
- Yes, this is my first time applying for the rapid grant, so I would like to tell you about me and my team's activity with the Wikimedia movement so far.
- 1) My involvement in the Wikimedia Movement started when I took part in WikiLatih or Wikipediawan training from Wikimedia Indonesia back in 2022. After that, I also took part in editing training in my spoken language or Banjarese Wikipedia and joined the Wikimedia Banjar Community in mid-2022.
- Since 2022, I have participated in many community activities such as Kopdar or regular monthly meetings and other activities. My recent activities with Wikimedia Banjar and Wikimedia Indonesia can be checked in https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/users/Wadaihangit
- In 2023, I participated in WikiNusantara or the Indonesian Wikipedian conference. I am responsible as host with one of my colleagues from Wikimedia Denpasar. In WikiNusantara 2024 Conference, I participated as participant in Edit-a-thon.
- I am also actively involved in competitions held by Wikimedia Indonesia, such as the # 1Lib1Ref campaign, Hibah Buku or book grants and online meetings.
- 2). I was participate in the WikiBanua project which is a documentation project similar to the proposal I submitted. This project have been completed in 2023. Me and my team worked on a project to documented rivers, culinary and graves in Banjarmasin City. The results of our project can be checked via this link or via this link. The budget for this project is about 530.77 dollars or Rp. 8,678,271.
- Meanwhile, the Wikimedia Banjar Community is involved in Wikimedia Movement projects, such as my team members, Volstand and Arcuscloud, who received a grant from the Dana Hibah or Wikimedia Indonesia's Fund for a WikiPandir project to recording Banjarese language vocabulary into the Banjarese Wiktionary.
- Meanwhile my other team members, Ronyronron, Mia Sulisnawati and Martini Rahman are new members of the Wikimedia Banjar community who joined in 2023. They are involved in community activities such as Kopdar, regular monthly meetings and being on the WikiLatih committee.
- 3) Me and my team are from the Wikimedia Banjar Community, a community of Banjarese-speaking Wikipedians from South Kalimantan and surrounding areas. We are working on the Banjarese Wikipedia project, Banjarese WikiQoute and Banjarese Wiktionary. The projects we carry out can be checked at this link.
- The collaboration that our community has carried out so far is conducting workshop training called Wikisumber Cinta Bahasa Melayu BJN at WikiSource in the form of editing Malay language texts. Also, we collaborate with WikiTutur to arranged a kopdar or meetings and record vocabulary according to the language we spoken.
- 4) Me and my team learned about this grant when we participated WikiNusantara 2023 in Banjarmasin. The grant recipients presented the results of their activities funded by the Wikimedia Indonesia, such as from the Wikimedia Denpasar community with the WikiTirta project. However, my friends and I haven't applied yet because we still don't understand the application process and the process for getting it.
- In January 2024, Wikimedia Banjar Community doing collaborate in the Wikisource Cinta Bahasa Melayu activity, named a Malay language manuscript editing training project at WikiSource. This project is funded by the Wikimedia Foundation and we were interested in applying for something similar because we heard how these grants could help recipients to contribute better content in Wikimedia project.
- We feel that these grants are an opportunity for Wikimedia Banjar community to develop even better in terms of improving the quality of content by getting access to direct sources, such as for library studies and adding references to existing articles. We think this is important, because some articles on Wikipedia Banjar still require references from trusted sources.
- In this case, the main project is rivers and culinary documentation. We feel that documenting rivers is important for the reason that rivers are one of the important cultures of the Banjarese people. Nowadays, the presence of rivers is only limited to bodies of water flow, even though rivers have added value, as transportation routes, as sources of water and as part of Banjarese culture itself. We think it is important to write good article about rivers in South Kalimantan in Banjarese and Indonesian Wikipedia as a source of knowledge for those who read them. The hope is that the story of this rivers will also be known about its history, use or other important things.
- Also, information about a river in South Kalimantan in the internet is mostly filled with news about pollution, narrowing the width of the river or rivers causing someone to lose their life. Through this grant we hope to be able to create articles about the values of rivers in South Kalimantan.
- Seeing how other regional Wikimedia communities in Indonesia have developed by getting grants, we from the Banjar Wikimedia community also hope that these grants can motivate us to add quality content to the Banjarese Wikipeda and other Wikimedia projects.
- 5) In the previous project from Grant Wikimedia Indonesia, we did the same project but on a small scale.
- Our contributions are in the form of articles in Indonesian and Banjarese Wikipedia, wikidata items and photos in Commons. For articles in Indonesian and Banjarese Wikipedia, we try to track it using the outreach dashboard tool, and Page views. Also, for article quality we use the tool https://copyvios.toolforge.org/ to avoid plagiarism, while for content tracking in Commons we use Category.
- 6) Yes of course, two of us are talking about this. We are planning to report and share the journey of this project on diff.
- 7) Well, the local partners that we will collaborate with are the local photography community, local culinary community and related agencies. The complete list is on this page.
- The reason we invite the local photography community is because we realize that the quality of a good article is having media that helps explain the article. We invite several local photography communities to help us take good photos. We plan to hold a photowalk at the documentation object point, invite local Wikipedia volunteers, conduct a basic photography workshop, curate photos and add them to the commons.
- Meanwhile, the local culinary community is culinary practitioners and cultural figures who understand the culinary arts that we will document. This is because there are still not many culinary-related reference sources on digital news sites, so it is necessary to conduct library research visits to cultural figures and culinary practitioners to get better references.
- Another mission of this collaboration with local partners is that we want to introduce the Wikimedia Banjar community as an encyclopedia in the Banjar language.
- Thank you. Wadaihangit (talk) 08:24, 29 June 2024 (UTC)
Your grant application has been approved
editHello @Wadaihangit,
Thank you for your detailed response to the follow-up questions/ comments.
Congratulations! Your grant application has been approved in the amount of IDR 68,200,000 from 2 July 2024 to 31 December 2024.
Let’s continue having regular conversations over the course of your grant implementation. Please let me know if you require support in any way or would like to share your experiences with a wider community through the Let's Connect Programme or at ESEAP community meetings.
Note on grant funding amount
In your award letter/email, you may observe that the USD equivalent may be different from that floating exchange rate on Oanda. This is because (at the moment) we apply a pre-determined exchange rate for each grant as determined by the WMF Finance team. That said, I've published on meta the approved amount in your local currency and we can use that as a common reference point.
We know even the best thought through plans may change.
In the event that there are changes to your implementation schedule, you can reach out to request for a grant extension (i.e. extend end date). Similarly, if there is a surplus budget or changes to your planned budget, you can reach out to me about reallocation (via email and on this talkpage). There is also the option to have the unspent funds deducted against a future grant. More details here: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Return_unused_funds_to_WMF
Disbursement of Funds
To facilitate the funds disbursement process, we seek your prompt response on Fluxx and via emails with the WMF Grants Administrator team (grantsadmin@wikimedia.org). We highly encourage you to submit all supporting documents and endorse the grant agreements within the stipulated time frame. When in doubt, proactively reach out to the WMF Grants Administration team and copy your programme officer.
