Original design of Wikipedia Space Banners
editThe banners that we are requesting were designed with funding from NARA and the Knight Foundation. Here is a link to the history of the of the design and use of the banners. Wikipedia Space Banners design and history of use. Sydney Poore/FloNight (talk) 16:14, 28 September 2016 (UTC)
- A good description of the Wikipedia Space at Innovation Hub at the National Archives. We want to have Wikipedia Space banners on site at the conference because 1) they will be good for the education of the general public and people from cultural organizations about Wikipedia. 2) highlight how a cultural institutions can have a permanent Wikipedia Space like at NARA 3) User group leaders can learn about there use and make plans to use them at future events across North America. - The table runners are very portable. They are meant to be re-used at edit-a-thons and other events. They don't have to remain together, e.g. they could be split up immediately after the conference among four of the affiliate communities, if it makes sense to do so. But if this is the case, we will keep track of where they are. --Rosiestep (talk) 21:18, 28 September 2016 (UTC)
WMF Comments
editHi Fuzheado, thank you for creating this proposal - we are pleased to approve and hope that you are able to get the banners in time for WikiConfernece North America. From the comments we understand that there is one existing set of banners and that they are permanently on display at NARA, but sometimes used at conferences and this grant would be to purchase a set of banners and table runners that would be shared among volunteers in the US to use at Wikimedia events. We understand that is is difficult to quantify the value of building awareness of Wikimedia, so instead of tracking and reporting an estimated number of people who see the banners we ask that you report the number of volunteers and/or partner organizations use the banners in the course of a year. Because this is a resource that will be shared, we ask that you set up a page to track the location of the banners and where people can request them. We also ask that after one year you report on any challenges, success stories or lessons you learn in the process of managing this kind of shared resource. --KHarold (WMF) (talk) 22:13, 3 October 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you, Kacie. We appreciate your quick response. Sydney Poore/FloNight (talk) 23:18, 3 October 2016 (UTC)
Proposal withdrawn
editHi Fuzheado and Sydney Poore/FloNight. I've updated the status to withdrawn since we have not heard back after several months of trying to move forward with the grant agreement and Wikiconference North America is over. Let us know if you would like to re-open this request at any point. Best, Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 20:55, 6 February 2017 (UTC)
