Questions and comments from I JethroBT (WMF)
edit@Macdanpets: Hello WPWP organzing team, and thanks for your proposal to support the international organizing activities for Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos. It's exciting to see a new campaign in the movement, and one that communities can relatively easily participate in given the current state of affairs around the COVID-19 pandemic. We will be funding the proposal with the following comments and questions:
- Thank you for setting up a landing page to coordinate your work and support local organizers. The Organizers' Guide,Special:MyLanguage/Wikipedia_Pages_Wanting_Photos/Resources, and how to participate section look especially helpful, so thanks for taking the time to prepare this documentation.
- Congratulations on your grant from WikiCred! We appreciate you are reviewing and seeking support from both Rapid Grants and other funding sources in the movement to supplement this large scale campaign.
- Could you provide some more information for the internet support? Whose internet will be supported and for what needs in your activities?
- In terms of the contest itself, I had a question about the contest rules. It looks like some prizes are offered for the most images used on Wikipedia articles. Do you think it is possible this could incentive people to focus their time on developing image galleries on a small number of articles depicting the same topic as opposed to working across a larger number of articles? Galleries are definitely appropriate and helpful to use in some Wikipedia articles, but aren't typically needed in all Wikipedia articles. I had wondered whether it may be better to frame the prize in terms of the number of unique articles improved with images as opposed to the total number of images. What do you think about this possibility?
When you are able, please respond to the above questions. In the meantime, congratulations on your grant and I will be contacting you over e-mail with further information to process your grant. With thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 19:53, 22 June 2020 (UTC)
