Proposals for closing projects/Deletion of Venda Wikipedia 2
This is a proposal for closing and/or deleting a wiki hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation. It is subject to the current closing projects policy.
The proposal is rejected and the project will be kept open.
- A Language Committee member provided the following comment: I suggested to reject this and similar requests because the only reason given for deleting is that these projects are unlikely to be reopened. Not much value in doing that was shown, and per phabricator:T168764#3378717 and the page linked from there it seems that such a deletion would only cause unnecessary technical problems, especially if by chance one of them should be reopened. --MF-W 23:16, 1 July 2017 (UTC) - Rejected. See also phabricator:T169928. --MF-W 00:54, 21 July 2017 (UTC)
- Type: 1 (routine proposal)
- Proposed outcome: deletion
- Proposed action regarding the content: should be transferred to Wikimedia Incubator
- Notice on the project: [Notice]
- Informed Group(s): South Africa Chapter
This wikipedia contains no encyclopedic content. Many of its articles contain only a title a couple of images, with zero words or tables [Example]. It is completely useless, and has to be deleted and rebooted in the Incubator. 178.49.152.66 19:55, 6 February 2017 (UTC)
Discussion
edit- I'd not mind closing the project because for me inactivity should be a valid reason, but as I've stated yesterday, per closing projects policy, inactivity itself is no valid reason. Absence of content since the wiki creation is usually a good reason, but ve:Special:RandomPage shows some pages of content. I accede, however, that for such level of content a full wiki ain't needed. Thanks, —MarcoAurelio 20:06, 6 February 2017 (UTC)
- WTF? This project is even not closed, why delete? --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 11:46, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
- I'd personally prefer that the project be closed and imported into Incubator. StevenJ81 (talk) 19:24, 16 February 2017 (UTC)
- Contra: Inactivity is no longer a valid reason for closing a project, per our policy. As the project seems to have contents, closure is not the right way to go. --OosWesThoesBes (talk) 18:39, 4 May 2017 (UTC)
- Support: Inactive Wikipedia version to the future. --Cyrus noto3at bulaga (talk) 08:22, 6 May 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose. I don't see anything special, this is a typical small Wikipedia project in an African language. Most of pages were obviously written by native speakers, so there's chance to be developed in a near future. Low activity seems not to be permanent, vandalism is eliminated by cross-wiki volunteers. No serious reasons to be closed, or even more so to be deleted. --Wolverène (talk) 17:09, 31 May 2017 (UTC)
Oppose Inactivity is not a reason. --Rschen7754 05:34, 18 June 2017 (UTC)- Oppose per phab:T169928. --Rschen7754 00:40, 21 July 2017 (UTC)
