This proposal has been approved. The Board of Trustees and language committee have deemed that there is sufficient grounds and community to create the new language project. A committee member provided the following comment: This project is approved. Congratulations! I have asked User:Ooswesthoesbes to look into creating a logo. Otherwise, please continue to contribute at Incubator until the new wiki is created. For LangCom: StevenJ81 (talk) 13:52, 28 September 2018 (UTC)

- The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics, recent changes). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
- The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
- The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:
What | Value | Example / Explanation |
---|
Proposal | ||
---|---|---|
Language code | li (SIL, Glottolog) | A valid ISO 639-1 or 639-3 language code, like "fr", "de", "nso", ... |
Language name | Limburgish | Language name in English |
Language name | Limburgs/Limbörgs | Language name in your language. This will appear in the language list on Special:Preferences, in the interwiki sidebar on other wikis, ... |
Language Wikidata item | Q102172 - item has currently the following values:
|
Item about the language at Wikidata. It would normally include the Wikimedia language code, name of the language, etc. Please complete at Wikidata if needed. |
Directionality | no indication | Is the language written from left to right (LTR) or from right to left (RTL)? |
Site URL | li.wikinews.org | langcode.wikiproject.org |
Settings | ||
---|---|---|
Project name | Wikinuujs | "Wikinews" in your language |
Project namespace | Wikinuujs | usually the same as the project name |
Project talk namespace | Euverlèk Wikinuujs | "Wikinews talk" (the discussion namespace of the project namespace) |
Enable uploads | no | Default is "no". Preferably, files should be uploaded to Commons. If you want, you can enable local file uploading, either by any user ("yes") or by administrators only ("admin").
Notes: (1) This setting can be changed afterwards. The setting can only be "yes" or "admin" at approval if the test creates an Exemption Doctrine Policy (EDP) first. (2) Files on Commons can be used on all Wikis. (3) Uploading fair-use images is not allowed on Commons (more info). (4) Localisation to your language may be insufficient on Commons. |
Optional settings | ||
Project logo | File:WikiNews-Logo-li.svg | This needs to be an SVG image (instructions for logo creation). |
Default project timezone | Europe/Amsterdam | "Continent/City", e.g. "Europe/Brussels" or "America/Mexico City" (see list of valid timezones) |
Additional namespaces | For example, a Wikisource would need "Page", "Page talk", "Index", "Index talk", "Author", "Author talk". | |
Additional settings | Anything else that should be set | |
Once settings are finalized, a committee member will submit a Phabricator task requesting creation of the wiki. (This will include everything automatically, except the additional namespaces/settings.) After the task is created, it should be linked to in a comment under "final decision" above. |

Arguments in favour
edit- Support Support This project was created on August 14 2007 and has recently recieved a new user. I think it has started to grow now and therefor I post this request. --OosWesThoesBes 08:02, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
* Strong support --Assoc (talk) 02:02, 22 January 2018 (UTC)This is a troll user that banned globally, hence removing. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 10:27, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
Arguments against
edit- Oppose Oppose A project like this requires much more manpower than say a Wikipedia or a Wiktionary. The Dutch Wikinews already barely functions. This is something for the (very) distant future, only to be considered if Limburgish ever becomes a full-fledged cultivated languages, more so than Frisian is now. Steinbach (formerly Caesarion) 18:15, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
- Recently an editor came, so why too ambitious? First wait a month or two and than rejudge. I know it's hard to keep a Wikinews alive, but I trust Limburgish and all Limburgish speakers. There just needs to be a little bit advertising I think. --OosWesThoesBes 18:22, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
- Oppose Strongly Oppose Although saying the Dutch Wikinews bearly functions might be a bit overdoing it, Limburgish would not function at all. And before we even get there it is not a language, it is a dialect. (Red4tribe 04:39, 21 April 2008 (UTC))
- Please note that at this moment the Limburgish Wikinews is more active than the Dutch one... Who's a dialect now? :) --OosWesThoesBes 08:39, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
- Oppose Strongly Oppose As said, (a lot) more than one user needs to be active here. Hardly any edits occurred in 2008, and the Limburgish used is of a poor quality. Being more active than the Dutch Wikinews doesn't say anything about the activity here (it's not about the relative number of edits but about the absolute number!). - Pahles 08:32, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
- Poor quality? The Limburgish Wikipedia definitively uses another writing system (or language) than we do. We use a spelling that points to the independence of Limburgish and not a spelling that tells everybody "this is a dialect, not a language". Unlike the Limburgish Wikipedia our users may choose how they want to write, in Veldeke or other spelling. This is nothing more than a pure revenge argument. --OosWesThoesBes 14:45, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
- This has nothing to do with revenge (for what?). On the LI wiki user OosWesThoesBes again and again has spoken against the use of a standardized spelling, because he thinks or feels that it is not adequate. Using your own devised spelling doesn't do any good for Limburgish as a whole! - Pahles 15:58, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
- Some corrections: About the use of the Veldeke standardisation. I've never said that it's my own spelling and it isn't. Euver "revenge": ich wös gei good waord te verzinne, zuuch ouch dien euverlègk óp li.wp. --OosWesThoesBes 16:06, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
- Now pages are written in both orthographies, Veldeke and High Limburgish. For example: [1] and [2]. --OosWesThoesBes 11:31, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

Discussion
edit- You are working hard on the localisation of Limburgish.. but is it not a bit ambitious to want to start two new projects at the same time ? Thanks, GerardM 19:45, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
- No. I'm currently working on a few projects. 2 Lozi projects, 1 Zealandic and 5 Limburgish projects. I know there are many people who speak Limburgish and are willing to learn how to write and are willing to contribute to one of my projects. The reason why I've posted this request was the first real contributor besides me, so I think this will become a good project. When I've finished the localisation I can work harder on the test-projects. --OosWesThoesBes 06:07, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
- The localisation efforts of Limburgish by this user is of a very poor quality. Being active in as many projects as possible seems to be his hobby (as you can see he refers to his projects). Status seems to be his only drive! - Pahles 08:32, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
- Then translate it yourself! --OosWesThoesBes 14:47, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
- I do every now and then, but time is not on my side. I'm talking of poor quality because different translations made by user OosWesThoesBes contain different spelling of the same words again and again. If you want to translate do it consistently at least! - Pahles 15:58, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
- Haj. From now on I'll use Remunjs, because it shows the 'sjl' just like AGL (zjwömme vs zwömme, sjlang vs slang). Everyone is free to put it into AGL at any time, your edits will always be useful, even if you make them over two years. --OosWesThoesBes 11:34, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

- Now I believe that this is the most active Wikinews, any ideas that when it can be approved? --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 11:41, 18 May 2018 (UTC)
- I am personally not entirely satisfied with activity (yet). We have only had sufficient activity for two months, which is less than the requirements. If the community is able to keep up activity levels for another month or two, I'll be very glad. --OosWesThoesBes (talk) 13:42, 6 June 2018 (UTC)
