Requests for new languages/Wikipedia Dobrujan Tatar

Discuss the creation of this language project on this page. Votes will be ignored when judging the proposal. Please provide arguments or reasons and be prepared to defend them (see the Language proposal policy).
The language committee needs to verify the language is eligible to be approved.
|
- The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics, recent changes). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
- The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
- The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:
What | Value | Example / Explanation |
---|
Proposal | ||

|
Item about the language at Wikidata. It would normally include the Wikimedia language code, name of the language, etc. Please complete at Wikidata if needed. |
Directionality | LTR | Is the language written from left to right (LTR) or from right to left (RTL)? |
Links | Tatar Tílí Tílsîzgasî Şurasî | Links to previous requests, or references to external websites or documents. |
Site URL | crh-ro.wikipedia.org | langcode.wikiproject.org |
Settings | ||
---|---|---|
Project name | Wikipediya | "Wikipedia" in your language |
Project namespace | Wikipediya | usually the same as the project name |
Project talk namespace | Şaykana | "Wikipedia talk" (the discussion namespace of the project namespace) |
Enable uploads | yes | Default is "no". Preferably, files should be uploaded to Commons. If you want, you can enable local file uploading, either by any user ("yes") or by administrators only ("admin").
Notes: (1) This setting can be changed afterwards. The setting can only be "yes" or "admin" at approval if the test creates an Exemption Doctrine Policy (EDP) first. (2) Files on Commons can be used on all Wikis. (3) Uploading fair-use images is not allowed on Commons (more info). (4) Localisation to your language may be insufficient on Commons. |
Optional settings | ||
Project logo | File:Wikipedia-logo-v2-djt.svg | This needs to be an SVG image (instructions for logo creation). |
Default project timezone | Europe/Bucharest | "Continent/City", e.g. "Europe/Brussels" or "America/Mexico City" (see list of valid timezones) |
Additional namespaces | For example, a Wikisource would need "Page", "Page talk", "Index", "Index talk", "Author", "Author talk". | |
Additional settings | Anything else that should be set | |
Proposal
editThere are around 50.000 to 70.000 speakers of this language. It's spoken by the Tatars in Dobruja. Please see also the article about en:Dobrujan Tatar in Wikipedia. A request for a separate language code was send to SIL. Zolgoyo (talk) 17:02, 18 October 2023 (UTC)

Arguments against
edit- Oppose Per LPP, The language must ordinarily have a valid ISO 639 1–3 code. If there is no valid ISO 639 code, you must try to obtain one. The Wikimedia Foundation does not seek to develop new linguistic entities; there must be an extensive body of works in that language. The information that distinguishes this language from another must ordinarily be sufficient to convince standards organizations to create an ISO 639 code. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 01:03, 19 October 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose Dobrujan is a dialect of Crimean Tatar diaspora in Romania, not a language.--Fenikals (talk) 10:00, 3 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Fenikals Hi, the Tatar spoken in Romania is not directly or only Crimean Tatar. It also has other Kipchak dialects such as Nogai. These dialects are also seen as one language because they are very similar. That is why it is problematic to write in this language in the Crimean Tatar Wikipedia. Here is a grammar book of the Tatar language in Romania from the University of Bucharest. Zolgoyo (talk) 11:14, 3 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Zolgoyo I recently contacted SIL again, and there's their response:

“ | Hello, as far as I've checked, there's only 6 submitted change requests in the last year, I don't know whether your friend is indeed submitted a request including something regarding "Dobrujan Tatar", but as far as I've checked, there's no e-mail in the last year we've got about requesting this. As explained again and again to every inquiries, only few requests are indeed submitted in 2023, and even for such "few requests", they were hold up for processing due to revision of ISO 639 main standard then. Maybe you can ask your friend to re-submit it by filling our new Google Form? URL: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeMh0ThLA64kxccJG9QXSXa2Q1-I2EPZ_gnXD7ptOuPIbfBCg/viewform | ” |

- @Liuxinyu970226 I did contact with Janell Nordmoe from SIL last year for language code, even I did send a Swadesh list. Now I did write to them and asked about it. The answer was:
“ | I have your request and will be in contact soon regarding its review. Thank you for bearing with us as it has been an extraordinary year. | ” |

- @Zolgoyo Now SIL published some 2024 requests at same [1], but still, I can't find anything about "Dobrujan Tatar", did you really contact the real staff? Or simply, are you really sure you submitted a request? It still looks like you're lying, as these requests are about "Kamantan, Newari, Noakhailla, Digor, Mpuono and Shaetlan". - Dear @Liuxinyu970226, please be patient. I did contact to the same person I did mentioned above, the answer was „This one is in the group currently being processed by me before consideration by the review panel“. Zolgoyo (talk) 13:29, 6 November 2024 (UTC)
