Arguments in favour (argumenty za)

edit
  1. Lower Sorbian is different from Upper Sorbian, although both languages are related, and is only distantly related to Serbian (just the name sounds similar).
  2. Lower Sorbian Wikipedia will be very helpful for people who want to learn that language
  3. Project was approved once but only Upper Sorbian Wikipedia was created. Second time it was rejected due to procedural reasons (see: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_new_languages/Wikipedia_Lower_Sorbian) because policy was changed from voting to discussion. So this is actually the third attempt.
  4. Test Lower Sorbian Wikipedia (http://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wp/dsb) has already over 200 articles and there are Wikipedias which have less then 10 articles (example: http://lbe.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Allpages).
  5. There is a strong difference between Upper and Lower Sorbian - not only language, but cultural difference as well. It is a different historical development, too.
  6. There are thousands of printed books in Lower Sorbian since the 16. century, it is a normal, fully developed literary language.
  7. There are print media such as Nowy Casnik, radio program Bramborske serbske radijo and also some electronic media in Lower Sorbian language. You can watch Lower Sorbian television "Łužyca", as well.
  8. The Lower Sorbian language is taught at the University of Leipzig in the field of "Sorbian Studies" (students there have to study Upper AND Lower Sorbian).
  9. Lower Sorbian is used as a medium of education at the Sorbian Gymnasium in Cottbus.
  10. Lower Sorbian is official regional language in Germany.
  11. Lower Sorbian has a valid ISO 639-2 and ISO 639-3 codes. (see: http://www.pathos.ca/tools/ISO639DB/index.php?search=dsb&exact=true&codes=true)

Support I support this project too! murjarik

Support Very strong support! nepl

Support Also a very strong support. Only some comments:

  • When was discussed about creating the dsb wikipedia the first time, there was said that the dsb could follow the hsb if the hsb wikipedija is working. So it is time to get the lower Sorbian wikipedia now.
  • A Lower Sorbian Wikipedia could help to stop the endangered situation of the language and culture!
  • Wikipedias in other European regional languages seem to be quite successful, and, despite the small population, I think these would be too.
  • Lower Sorbian Wikipedia will be very helpful for students/pupils of the lower Sorbian schools and lower Sorbian instructions in other schools. Qualia 08:23, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Also very strong support. (I agree with Pe7er´s, Nepl´s and Qualia´s arguments and I also wrote one argument above) --Dezidor 09:28, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - I can confirm everything stated above. The relatively small number of speakers shouldn't be problem in this case, as the Lower Sorbians ethnic group has a strong committment to fostering its language. One should add that this language has enjoyed official recognition and protection for many decades already. --ARBE0 16:31, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Strong support, see Nepl and Qualia. There is a great interest in getting the well-incubated baby to daylight, cf. this --Dundak 20:36, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, very strong. Tim.bounceback 22:10, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, why not? If the hornoserbska is working so well --Aktron 22:36, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, very strong. --Tlustulimu 17:10, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support for the third time. Angr 17:37, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, VERY STRONG Viktor Lower Sorbian language is an independent Slavic language which deserves to be included in the large Wikipediaˈs family. Since Lower Sorbian is jeopardized with total extinction, it would be more than convenient to put in place the activated LowerSorbian wikipedia which will play a crucial role in the revitalisation of this almost extinguished language spoken in the area of Cottbus (Germany).
  • Support Lower Sorbian is undisputedly a language in its own right and the test project has done well. I sincerely hope that this Wikipedia edition will contribute to the efforts of preserving this highly endangered language. --Johannes Rohr 22:13, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Forming a Lower Sorbian wikipedia could help to preserve this endangered language (look above). Preserving this language has not only effects on the speeking community, but is also very interesting from an linguistic point of view. Lower Sorbian has preserved dual as a grammatical category, it has the supinum. There are some fonetical-fonological developments, which are typical only for Lower Sorbian (for example *t' > ś, *d' > ź. Nepl
  • Support this language is studied at school and i'm convinced that Wikipedia will contribute to the efforts of preserving this endangered language. Whlee 08:25, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Upper Sorbian Wikipedia is now flourishing already, so I believe that Lower Sorbian will also be able achieve similar results as well. --Jose77 05:00, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. --Sippel2707 08:29, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Support Strong support. Kyknos 14:22, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I support this project, because wikipedia is very useful for endangered languages. When you write in endangered language many articles, then is bigger probability to save endangered language.
    • In Lithuania is region Samogitia [1]. Dialect of that region is quit different than lithuanian language. Samogitians have their wikipedia.
      • Similar situation is in region of Latvia Latgale. There people are speaking different language than latvian literal. They don't have wikipedia yet, but they have test version.
