This proposal has been approved. The Board of Trustees and language committee have deemed that there is sufficient grounds and community to create the new language project. A committee member provided the following comment: Activity was found to be sufficient etc. Some data are still needed for the bug. --MF-W 11:35, 3 March 2018 (UTC) phabricator:T189465 --MF-W 11:34, 12 March 2018 (UTC)

- The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
- The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
- The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:
What | Value | Example / Explanation |
---|
Proposal | ||
---|---|---|
Language code | eu (SIL, Glottolog) | A valid ISO 639-1 or 639-3 language code, like "fr", "de", "nso", ... |
Language name | Basque | Language name in English |
Language name | Euskara | Language name in your language. This will appear in the language list on Special:Preferences, in the interwiki sidebar on other wikis, ... |
Language Wikidata item | Q8752 - item has currently the following values:
|
Item about the language at Wikidata. It would normally include the Wikimedia language code, name of the language, etc. Please complete at Wikidata if needed. |
Directionality | no indication | Is the language written from left to right (LTR) or from right to left (RTL)? |
Links | Classic texts now on PD, University books, inside the agreement to upload them by topic to Wikimedia hosted projects, Classical texts and texts about Basque language... | Links to previous requests, or references to external websites or documents. |
Site URL | eu.wikisource.org | langcode.wikiproject.org |
Settings | ||
---|---|---|
Project name | Wikiteka | "Wikisource" in your language |
Project namespace | Wikiteka | usually the same as the project name |
Project talk namespace | Wikiteka eztabaida | "Wikisource talk" (the discussion namespace of the project namespace) |
Enable uploads | no | Default is "no". Preferably, files should be uploaded to Commons. If you want, you can enable local file uploading, either by any user ("yes") or by administrators only ("admin").
Notes: (1) This setting can be changed afterwards. The setting can only be "yes" or "admin" at approval if the test creates an Exemption Doctrine Policy (EDP) first. (2) Files on Commons can be used on all Wikis. (3) Uploading fair-use images is not allowed on Commons (more info). (4) Localisation to your language may be insufficient on Commons. |
Optional settings | ||
Project logo | File:Wikisource-logo-EU.svg | This needs to be an SVG image (instructions for logo creation). |
Default project timezone | GMT+1 | "Continent/City", e.g. "Europe/Brussels" or "America/Mexico City" (see list of valid timezones) |
Additional namespaces | "Page" > "Orrialde", "Page talk" > "Orrialde eztabaida", "Index" > "Aurkibide", "Index talk" > "Aurkibide eztabaida" | For example, a Wikisource would need "Page", "Page talk", "Index", "Index talk", "Author", "Author talk". |
Additional settings | Anything else that should be set | |
Once settings are finalized, a committee member will submit a Phabricator task requesting creation of the wiki. (This will include everything automatically, except the additional namespaces/settings.) After the task is created, it should be linked to in a comment under "final decision" above. |
This project is being relaunched, with lots of new texts. Basque Wikimedians User Group is promoting some mass uploads of different texts in the next months, and activity has started. It would be great to reconsider this.
- Wikisource is always open for works in any language that doesn't have a dedicated Wikisource.--Prosfilaes (talk) 22:40, 27 November 2017 (UTC)
Arguments in favour
edit- Good idea. In wikisource, yes, there aren only 3 pages, but in the new basque wikisource there are going more.--Bengoa (My user talk) 18:25, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
- I think Basque (Euskara) can easy handle this. You could compare Basque with Limburgish. Basque might have got half a million speakers less, it's more a writing language than Limburgish is. The Limburgish Wikisource (Wikibrónne/Wikibrön) goes like a train. --OosWesThoesBes 18:36, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
- Lots of Basque clasic writers texts are now of public domain. It is very important to have a proper wiki site to keep, maintain and share all this cultural heritage, which is more important than most people think.--Janfri 07:40, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
- Localization in Betawiki is now of 100% for most used messages. Uploaded some old basque texts and a localization with own eu.wikisource subdomain would make this project more visibel. -Theklan 23:04, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
- There are lots of source texts avalaible in the public domain that could be imported. Basque Wikipedia works well and it would be useful to put external links there to make Basque Wikisource an ongoing project. I request own subdomain. Thanks. - Joxemai (talk) 15:15, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
Arguments against
edit- It looks like there is no interest at all for this proposal. No reasons for wanting this project and/or links have been provided by the user making the proposal. Siebrand 11:25, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
- I also think there is no interest. At oldwikisource there are just 3 texts since months (years?) ago. More texts of this extraordinary language should be uploaded first there, please. I want more euskera free texts! -Aleator (talk) 21:20, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
- You have to find more people willing to help. (Red4tribe)
- The collection of texts on oldwikisource is too small. John Vandenberg 11:20, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Other discussion
edit- Currently the localisation effort is at 79.86% 21.69% at Betawiki. Thanks, GerardM 07:12, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
- Currently the localisation effort is at 75.01% 17.55% at Betawiki as a consequence the start of a wikisource is further away then last time I looked... Thanks, GerardM 08:23, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
Settings
editDear community, this project is approved. Please fill in the "Settings" part of the template which we need in order to request the creation of the wiki from the developers. --MF-W 11:35, 3 March 2018 (UTC)
- It was pointed out to me that the public objection time for approval actually goes until 6 March. Nevertheless, it will be advantageous to already fill in the template. --MF-W 13:39, 4 March 2018 (UTC)
- User:Theklan: ping :) --MF-W 08:10, 6 March 2018 (UTC)
- Excuse me, MF-Warburg... which template? -Theklan (talk) 14:38, 6 March 2018 (UTC)
- I see you found it. But we also need the translations of the Wikisource-specific namespaces "Page", "Page talk", "Index", "Index talk". --MF-W 18:09, 6 March 2018 (UTC)
- @Theklan: Also, do you have time on logo? --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 10:14, 7 March 2018 (UTC)
- @MF-Warburg:... give us some time. We are on a discussion about the naming, as the basque direct translation would have a double vowel and it seems weird. -Theklan (talk) 10:26, 7 March 2018 (UTC)
- @MF-Warburg: Done -Theklan (talk) 11:28, 12 March 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks! I filed phabricator:T189465. --MF-W 11:34, 12 March 2018 (UTC)
