This proposal has been approved. The Board of Trustees and language committee have deemed that there is sufficient grounds and community to create the new language project. A committee member provided the following comment: Congratulations! Please continue to contribute on Multilingual Wikisource until the new wiki is created. - The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
- The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
- The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:
What | Value | Example / Explanation |
---|
Proposal | ||
---|---|---|
Language code | pms (SIL, Glottolog) | A valid ISO 639-1 or 639-3 language code, like "fr", "de", "nso", ... |
Language name | Piedmontese | Language name in English |
Language name | Piemontèis | Language name in your language. This will appear in the language list on Special:Preferences, in the interwiki sidebar on other wikis, ... |
Language Wikidata item | Q15085 - item has currently the following values:
|
Item about the language at Wikidata. It would normally include the Wikimedia language code, name of the language, etc. Please complete at Wikidata if needed. |
Directionality | no indication | Is the language written from left to right (LTR) or from right to left (RTL)? |
Site URL | pms.wikisource.org | langcode.wikiproject.org |
Settings | ||
---|---|---|
Project name | Wikisorgiss | "Wikisource" in your language |
Project namespace | Wikisorgiss | usually the same as the project name |
Project talk namespace | Discussion ëd la Wikisorgiss | "Wikisource talk" (the discussion namespace of the project namespace) |
Enable uploads | no | Default is "no". Preferably, files should be uploaded to Commons. If you want, you can enable local file uploading, either by any user ("yes") or by administrators only ("admin").
Notes: (1) This setting can be changed afterwards. The setting can only be "yes" or "admin" at approval if the test creates an Exemption Doctrine Policy (EDP) first. (2) Files on Commons can be used on all Wikis. (3) Uploading fair-use images is not allowed on Commons (more info). (4) Localisation to your language may be insufficient on Commons. |
Optional settings | ||
Project logo | This needs to be an SVG image (instructions for logo creation). | |
Default project timezone | Europe/Rome | "Continent/City", e.g. "Europe/Brussels" or "America/Mexico City" (see list of valid timezones) |
Additional namespaces | Pàgina, Discussion ëd la pàgina, Tàula, Discussion ëd la tàula | For example, a Wikisource would need "Page", "Page talk", "Index", "Index talk", "Author", "Author talk". |
Additional settings | Anything else that should be set | |
Once settings are finalized, a committee member will submit a Phabricator task requesting creation of the wiki. (This will include everything automatically, except the additional namespaces/settings.) After the task is created, it should be linked to in a comment under "final decision" above. |

editIt's been online for some time and seems to be rather active, so I decided to make a request for them. --OosWesThoesBes (talk) 13:12, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
Discussion
edit(this comment is posted after approval) @Ooswesthoesbes: You need to complete "Project namespace" and "Project talk namespace" fields above. And, as this is a Wikisource you should tell us the translations of "Page", "Page talk", "Index", "Index talk" namespaces. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 10:09, 10 May 2018 (UTC)
- "Page" = "Pàgina", "Page talk" = "Discussion", "Index" = "Tàula", "Index talk": "Discussion". I need detailed instructions in order for me not to make mistakes. Thanks. --Pcastellina (talk) 08:44, 13 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Pcastellina: I boldly changed your "Discussion" above to "Wikisorgiss_discussion", since two different propose talk namespaces can't have same name, TBO you're asking to say all of them as "$1_discussion", and so Page talk should be "Pàgina_discussion"; Index talk should be "Tàula_discussion"? --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 04:43, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
- These talk namespace translations would differ from the scheme for talk namespaces used on pms:Special:Allpages. Is that ok? --MF-W 12:14, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
- [1] - There we go. The only difference is that Pcastellina uses "ëd la" instead of "dla", which looks to me like something that is regularly interchangeable. So the translations I propose are "Pàgina", "Discussion dla pàgina", "Tàula", "Discussion dla tàula", "Wikisorgiss", and "Discussion dla Wikisorgiss". --OosWesThoesBes (talk) 13:45, 15 May 2018 (UTC)
- Translation seem right to me now. According to the Piedmontese grammar, the preposition "ëd" (of) with the article "la" (the) connect as "dla" if it is after a noun ending by a vowel; but if is is after a noun ending by a consonant, they do not connect, but remain separate; ex. "Ël pòst ëd la ramassa" (the place of the broom), and: "Ël mani dla ramassa" (the handle of the broom). That's for euphonic reasons. In our case "discussion ëd la pàgina" is correct. I suppose, nevertheless, since it is not fine literature, but a technical notice, for practical reasons we could accept "discussion dla pàgina". Would we have arguments with purists? I have to ask others. I suggest to check the usage in pms.wikipedia.org and conform to what they have there. Can you check? --Pcastellina (talk) 11:00, 16 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Pcastellina and Borichèt: pms.wiki uses either "discussion dla figura/MediaWiki" or, in the single instance, "discussion dlë stamp". Otherwise, it uses "discussion ant sla Wikipedia/categoria" and "discussion ant sl'agiut". In other words, it's a mess... --OosWesThoesBes (talk) 12:51, 16 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi everydody!
Discussion ëd la pàgina is preferable and sounds better than Discussion dla pàgina, for the reasons Pcastellina explained (though notice that the final n of Discussion is a sort of semi-consonant here: it's pronounced in the throat, not far from the nasal n in French). However both versions are correct, so I support the former but the latter is acceptable as well. Borichèt (talk) 15:49, 16 May 2018 (UTC)
- D'acòrdi con Borichet. --Pcastellina (talk) 19:04, 16 May 2018 (UTC)
- Alright. I'll update the translation accordingly. The Piedmontese community should make a decision in the future whether they want to change the older translations to "ëd la" too, for consistency's sake. --OosWesThoesBes (talk) 08:47, 17 May 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you all for your engagement. I have now filed bug T194879. --MF-W 11:48, 17 May 2018 (UTC)

Really? You've not even left a note to the Italian Wikisource, where Piedmontese texts traditionally reside (s:it:Categoria:Testi in piemontese)? Not very nice. --Nemo 15:27, 7 June 2018 (UTC)
- Piedmontese has its own ISO code and as such has every right to its own subdomain. It is up to the Italian community to decide on whether those pages should be kept at it.ws or whether they will be deleted there. However, the name of the category (testi) suggests that they weren't meant to remain there when a new subdomain is created. --OosWesThoesBes (talk) 14:25, 8 June 2018 (UTC)
