This language has been verified as eligible. The language is eligible for a project, which means that the subdomain can be created once there is an active community and a localized interface, as described in the language proposal policy. You can discuss the creation of this language project on this page. Once the criteria are met, the language committee can proceed with the approval. If you think the criteria are met, but the project is still waiting for approval, feel free to notify the committee and ask them to consider its approval. |
- The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
- The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
- The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:
What | Value | Example / Explanation |
---|
Proposal | ||
---|---|---|
Language code | nl (SIL, Glottolog) | A valid ISO 639-1 or 639-3 language code, like "fr", "de", "nso", ... |
Language name | Dutch | Language name in English |

Directionality | LTR | Is the language written from left to right (LTR) or from right to left (RTL)? |
Site URL | nl.wikiversity.org | langcode.wikiproject.org |
Settings | ||
---|---|---|
Project name | Wikiversity | "Wikiversity" in your language |
Project namespace | usually the same as the project name | |
Project talk namespace | "Wikiversity talk" (the discussion namespace of the project namespace) | |
Enable uploads | yes | Default is "no". Preferably, files should be uploaded to Commons. If you want, you can enable local file uploading, either by any user ("yes") or by administrators only ("admin").
Notes: (1) This setting can be changed afterwards. The setting can only be "yes" or "admin" at approval if the test creates an Exemption Doctrine Policy (EDP) first. (2) Files on Commons can be used on all Wikis. (3) Uploading fair-use images is not allowed on Commons (more info). (4) Localisation to your language may be insufficient on Commons. |
Optional settings | ||
Project logo | This needs to be an SVG image (instructions for logo creation). | |
Default project timezone | "Continent/City", e.g. "Europe/Brussels" or "America/Mexico City" (see list of valid timezones) | |
Additional namespaces | For example, a Wikisource would need "Page", "Page talk", "Index", "Index talk", "Author", "Author talk". | |
Additional settings | Anything else that should be set | |
Arguments in favor
editDutch is spoken by 30 million people, I'm sure many of them would be willing to help. I believe it is time we get a Dutch Wikiversity.
Dialect-a provincial, rural, or socially distinct variety of a language that differs from the standard language, esp. when considered as substandard
- Some of the books written on the Dutch Wikibooks could be a start for the courses on a Dutch Wikiversity (Wikiversiteit?) JosN 19:11, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

- I would like to see this, but I'm afraid there is a little shortage. Where are those ten users? :( --OosWesThoesBes 17:58, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
- Dutch is the only big language that does not have a wikiversity, i would like to see it because Holland and Belgium have many students 217.120.39.129 11:52, 19 October 2009 (UTC) (user:jillids on wikipedia)
- Dutch is the only big language without a wikiversity. Much Dutch people would like one. Now, very much things Dutch people know isn't coming on the wikiversity because of the fact that there isn't a Dutch wikiverity. I hope, that in de nearby future there will be an Dutch Wikiversity. - I have generated the Hilbert Book Model Project in English. My native language is Dutch. I want to translate the project in Dutch. It can then act as a test sample.. I wonder whether a kind of language sandbox exists. https://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Hilbert_Book_Model_Project --HansVanLeunen (talk) 15:35, 21 May 2017 (UTC)

Arguments against
edit- Dialect of Limburgish. --OosWesThoesBes 05:24, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
- You are soo ignorant! It's a Low Saxon dialect! We shouldn't support separatist requests like this one! --::Slomox:: >< 12:39, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry but this isn't the time for joke. --Ilaria - scrivimi 19:13, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, but at the time I added this, I was rather angry on those people that constantly say Limburgish is a dialect based on Dutch (while they haven't ever heard a single word of it!) This is of course a nonsense argument and I'm fully supporting the creation of a Dutch Wikiversity. --OosWesThoesBes 17:56, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

- I think the dutch wiki university should have a course about languages like Limburgish. There is a lot to learn about dialects based on limburgish, dutch and low saxon. But if there not a dutch wikiversity where should Ooswesthoesbes write that course. So I read it as an argument pro instead of against. Carsrac 11:28, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

- Well, ISO code is there - so I dont see a problem why not to have Duth Wikiversity:-)--Juan de Vojnikov 20:06, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
General discussion
editIs there any point in requesting a Dutch Wikiversity besides Requests for new languages/Wikiversity Limburgish? --Erwin(85) 15:17, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
- No, but RedTribe said Limburgish is a dialect of Dutch, but you could see it from the other side too. Compare the Dutch and Limburgish words for Bible: Bijbel (Dutch) vs Biebel (Limburgish), the original source was Biblia, one point for Limburgish. --OosWesThoesBes 17:09, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
- Limburgish and Dutch are languages that are very related. It is a fact that allmost every Limburgish speakers understand Dutch, but sadly does everyone of the 30 milion Dutchspeakers understand Limburgish. The official language of the Netherlands is Dutch. Limburgish is spoken mostly in the Limburg that one of the lands that forms the Netherlands. Just like Fryslan (land) and Frysk (language). Carsrac 11:50, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
Limburgish-Dutch=Same language. The Native American languages have nothing to do with Dutch dialects. (Red4tribe 05:10, 22 April 2008 (UTC))
- Limburgish is the same language as Dutch? I guess you don't speak Dutch either... --OosWesThoesBes 11:51, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
- Nosense Limburgish and Dutch are not same languages and that is a fact. Both are official languages of the EU. The same as Native American languages, Spanish and Irish official languages are of the USA. Carsrac 11:50, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
- This is nonsense. The standard language of the USA is English too, but you could hardly say the Native American languages are dialects of English. --OosWesThoesBes 05:06, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
The standard language is Dutch. Standard Dutch. Thus saying Dutch is a dialect of Low Saxon or Limburgish is incorrect. (Red4tribe 18:14, 21 April 2008 (UTC))</
Oh, come on! This discussion is going nowhere! Limburgish, like Low Saxon are regional languages spoken in the Netherlands. The question which should be answered is: Should there be a Duch Wikiversity? JosN 13:55, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
Well, as said above, I believe there should be. (Red4tribe 17:18, 25 April 2008 (UTC))
This is not the first attempt
editI have tried several times now to set-up a community for Dutch Wikiversity (Within Dutch Wikipedia and Dutch Wikibooks community), which failed equal times. There is just not enough interest or participation for this at this moment. Therefore I have tried to set-up a wikiversity within the Wikibooks-project (we also host Wikijunior there) with the idea this could be a separate project afterwards after it has grown. Alas due to lack of participation and interest I did nog fully develop this as yet, but I intend to and welcome help.
Setting up a separate Wikiversity at this time is a waste of resources for localisation and also for maintenance on the wiki, but I do welcome you to join the Dutch Wikibooks community so that we can set-up the Wikiversity within this environment and use some synergy.
For me it is still dificult to find out the difference between Wikibooks en Wikiversity. If I look to courses on EN:WV and books on EN:WB the distinction is not too big. Some books on Dutch Wikibooks have been expanded with something I think would be Wikiversity like: tests about the content: external links to educative sites about the subject, and so on.
I propose to set-up a department Wikiversity within Wikibooks and redirect nl.wikiversity.org to that. Pjetter 07:23, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- Well but instead, the translation of localisation would be a great job.--Juan de Vojnikov 12:24, 22 October 2008 (UTC)
