Talk:Requests for new languages/Wikipedia Lower Sorbian 2
Localization
editCongratulations and thank you to the Lower Sorbian community; the Lower Sorbian Wikipedia is only one step away from creation. Before the wiki can be created, we need to translate the main interface messages. This page will serve as a place for centralized discussion and coordination, while the actual translation will be on the BetaWiki (see BetaWiki instructions and a full list of Lower Sorbian interface messages). If you have any problems, comments, suggestions, or questions, feel free to post below and we will be sure they are addressed.
While it would be even better to translate the entire interface, some of it isn't very important and can be translated later. If you see any messages you think don't need to be translated, feel free to mention them here.
The following messages don't need translation before final approval (although you are free to translate them anyway). The * symbol followed by a number means that several messages beginning with that are unneeded. For example, unlock* (6) means that six messages with names starting with "unlock" (unlockdb, unlockdbtext, unlockconfirm, unlockbtn, unlockdbsuccesssub, and unlockdbsuccesstext) are unneeded.
- common* (2)
- edittools
- exif-* (273)
- export* (7)
- feed* (2)
- import* (27)
- lock* (8)
- mainpagedocfooter
- mainpagetext
- metadata* (6)
- monobook* (2)
- pagetitle
- unlock* (6)
I can't emphasize this enough: if you have any problems, comments, suggestions, or questions, feel free to post below and we will be sure they are addressed. There's no reason for anyone to be confused or uncertain if we can help it. :) —{admin} Pathoschild 04:13:19, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
- Very friendly, thank you :-) Anyway, just let me ask a stupid question. We have a fully translated interface in Upper Sorbian, which is understood by all Lower Sorbian contributors. Why shouldn't we just write articles and do the UI later? The manpower of Lower Sorbian contributors is bound by building a new interface. I know what I'm talking about, because I did the main part of the translation in Upper Sorbian and it took me months… Sincerely --Dundak 00:36, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, the policy requires that most of the interface be translated into the relevant language. The method you suggest was proposed a few times, but a majority of the subcommittee (excluding myself) see localization as a strict prerequisite. Fortunately, the above list and possibly the administrator-only interface are not required, which should reduce the workload considerably.
- Feel free to edit the Incubator in the meantime, where you can change to an Upper Sorbian interface in your preferences. Articles will be moved when the new wiki is created. —{admin} Pathoschild 04:04:02, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
- Please note that I have resigned from the subcommittee. Although I will still answer any questions you may have and help as much as possible, I will no longer do so as an official representative. To contact the subcommittee, please post a message to Talk:Language subcommittee. Thanks. :) —{admin} Pathoschild 01:30:05, 01 May 2007 (UTC)
- Interface is now fully translated, Thanks to User:Nepl. See here. So there are no obstacles left to create this wikipedia? --Dundak 13:44, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
