Talk:Training modules/Translation
A bug?
edit@JSutherland (WMF):, I am working on translation into Japanese and a set of three hyphens or '+'+' shows as two asterisks or **. It is supposed to markup letters in bold. I opened dashboard in Japanese language for Training Library_Keeping Events Safe and checked the outcome for translation in ja. A set of two asterisks show in dashboard for ja under #6 Before the event.
*The paragraph starts with:
Designate responsible parties who will handle an issue, should it arise. Who is the designated first responder?
*In Japanese, it shows something like **Designate responsible parties** (of course in Japanese words). ----Omotecho (talk) 01:45, 16 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Omotecho - Again, many many thanks for working on this. :) I think this looks like a weird glitch in "Markdown", the markup language that the dashboard uses. Ragesoss / Sage (Wiki Ed), any ideas what this might be? (The glitch is here.) Joe Sutherland (Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 03:38, 16 May 2017 (UTC)
- Ah, it looks like I fixed it by moving the ''' before the period (。). Very weird... Joe Sutherland (Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 03:44, 16 May 2017 (UTC)
- This sounds like one of the cases where Mediawiki markup doesn't translate cleanly to Markdown. (These are generally on the Mediawiki side; our markup allows things that Pandoc can't turn into strictly valid HTML, without changing some of the formatting. This is especially true of things like bolding text that can span multiple elements.)--Sage (Wiki Ed) (talk) 16:13, 16 May 2017 (UTC)
- Sage (Wiki Ed), thank you for support and update, and JSutherland (WMF) everything looks fine to me. Regards, ----Omotecho (talk) 00:25, 18 May 2017 (UTC)
- Yes, thanks Sage (Wiki Ed)! :) Joe Sutherland (Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 00:36, 18 May 2017 (UTC)

Translating the content of library pages
editUser:Josefine Hellroth Larsson (WMSE) and me just started translating the Editathon training into Swedish. Is it also possible to translate the description in User:Astinson (WMF)/dashboard libraries/editathons.json? I.e. the text that is displayed this page. --Alicia Fagerving (WMSE) (talk) 13:38, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
- Alicia, Josefine: The Dashboard has partial support for translations of the training Library pages, but you're the first folks who've actually wanted to try it. With the current code, the way it would have to work would be to include the translations in the `.json` page, which is not practical because only the owner of that page is able to edit it. I will see what I can do to make it more practical to translate these pages, and follow up with you when I've figured something out.--Ragesoss (talk) 17:34, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
- Alicia, Josefine: The title and the text right under are going to be easy to enable translations for. If you can add translations here, that would help me out with getting it in order: Training_modules/editathons/library. It looks like there is some additional development I'll need to do before the titles and descriptions of the individual modules can also be translated.--Ragesoss (talk) 18:56, 1 October 2020 (UTC)
