Comment: The originally worded Objective 2 in Article Two stated:

To promote the use of native Philippine languages, including Filipino, in educational and reference materials, such as encyclopedias, dictionaries and textbooks

A better revised wording would be

To promote the use of native Philippine languages in educational and reference materials, such as encyclopedias, dictionaries and textbooks...

In other words, the phrase "including Filipino" should be deleted.

Rationale: The issue of "Filipino" is still a controversial subject on many aspects among Filipino citizens and this provision using the original wording might be construed to mean that Wikimedia Philippines is taking an official partisan ideological stand on this issue, hence the need to omit the phrase "including Filipino". Wikimedia should remain nonpolitical and neutral on this issue. A neutral point of view would be reflected if Objective 2 in Article 2 of the proposed Articles of Incorporation should simply read "To promote the use of native Philippine languages"

The new wording seems fine to me. Then again, if some government official asks about Filipino, we can say that it (or Tagalog) is included anyway. --Sky Harbor 23:48, 17 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Do we really need to have a Filipino name for it? If we do incorporasyon is a grammatical error as incorporated will translate into spanish as incorporado and when the business is already established it is thus incoporated if it is just being formed then it's incorporation. Scorpion prinz 09:26, 19 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
I suppose. There are few, if any, Filipino corporate names anyway. --Sky Harbor 21:46, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
What about just a Filipino name for the organization? So we it will appear to be distinctively Filipino? Scorpion prinz 05:28, 21 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
What would it be? Wikimedia Pilipinas is fine enough, I suppose. Or Asosyasyong Wikimedia Pilipinas? --Sky Harbor 05:32, 21 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Wikimedia Pilipinas, Wikimedia ng Pilipinas, Samahang Wikimedia ng Pilipinas, Samahang Wikimedia-Pilipinas take your pick. — scorpion prinz 17:10, 21 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Wikimedia Pilipinas is fine for me. the shorter, the better.--Rebskii 18:13, 23 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Well, Wikimedia Pilipinas it is. --Sky Harbor 06:58, 28 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

(resetting indent) I think we should just have "Wikimedia Philippines". If we have "Wikimedia Pilipinas", it seems too specific to us Filipinos who call our country Pilipinas. (Yes, there are Filipinos who call our country by names other than "Pilipinas" - variations, of course, but not that sequence of letters.) IANAL, but there is no requirement that a Philippine corporation should have a "Filipino" name. So I think the second sentence of Article 1 should be struck out. --Bentong Isles 10:05, 12 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Just leave it as "Wikimedia Philippines" and the official language as "English" as it is currently in the by laws draft. We should avoid controversy and disputes at this starting period. Later on, the board of trustees and officers can decide on that matter. We should start doing it now coz it's taking up so long! BTW, arent the list of participants supposed to be in the Articles of Incorporation? " list of participants shall be placed inside the Articles of Incorporation" - from the Wikimedia Philippines page. Weekeejames 15:06, 8 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yes, we have to insert a list of members in the Articles of Incorporation. The list will be known as "Annex A". --Sky Harbor 11:09, 10 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Approval

edit

In order to forward this to the Chapters committee, I'm hoping to seek the approval of the community first. Approval of these Articles shall represent community support and ratification. You may only vote once, and you must give a reason why (consensus voting as part of the Bylaws).

Voting will be open until Thursday, June 21, 2007.

If there is a consensus towards supporting the Articles, I will forward them to the Chapters committee. For the record, I support. --Sky Harbor 02:41, 31 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Voting is now CLOSED. With eight members approving and none dissenting of this document (out of fourteen members at the time of this document's approval), this document will now be forwarded to the Chapters committee for approval.

Once the Articles of Incorporation are approved, I highly suggest scrutinizing the Bylaws and commenting about them. Voting on the Bylaws will be announced on a later date.

Also, we need a Secretary and Treasurer now. Thanks to everyone who participated. We're finally getting the first Wikimedia chapter in Southeast Asia moving forward. --Sky Harbor 11:11, 22 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

The articles of incorporation is easy. But the bylaws will need a lot of discussion. --Seav 04:56, 23 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
I know. I believe that the bylaws will be a subject of much contention. This will probably be the second-hardest thing, right before capital. --Sky Harbor 14:34, 23 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
