About me
Brandon Butler is a copyright lawyer and policy expert whose work focuses on fair use and other copyright limitations and exceptions favoring libraries, universities, and scholars. He is also interested in open access and combating the dysfunctions in scholarly communication.
He graduated from UVA School of Law in 2008, obtained an MA in Philosophy from the University of Texas, Austin, in 2004, and a BA (English and Philosophy) from the University of Georgia.
My work
He is currently the Director of Information Policy at the University of Virginia Library in Charlottesville, VA. He was previously the Practitioner-in-Residence in the Glushko-Samuelson Intellectual Property Law Clinic at the American University Washington College of Law, the Director of Public Policy Initiatives at the Association of Research Libraries, and an Associate in the Media and Information Technologies practice group at Dow Lohness PLLC (now Cooley LLP).
