Spam warning

edit

I get a spam warning editing Gerald Ford at en.wikipedia.org, the "spam" site in question being nyc10044.com (not my addition). The site seems to be legit. (Wikipedia said to contact an admin. Recognicing you name, I chose you from the list. Is this the right place to contact you?) 129.241.127.193 03:01, 19 Jan 2005 (UTC)

The site doesn't seem to be listed at the spam blacklist. I'm not too familiar with how this works. Perhaps you should ask someone on en: instead. Benjamin 02:15, 22 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Wikipedia-wide information network

edit

Hello.

I am Anthere. I only speak french and english. I hope someone will be able to translate this, and I apologise if I did not put it in the right place :-)

I would like that information circulate better between wikipedias, so that all wikipedians can participate more, and keep its own identity at the same time.

For this reason, I recently set a page on meta, m: Goings-on.

Hopefull, at any time, this page could indicate the current discussions, polls, votes or general announcements. 3 pages were already locally created on the spanish, the french, on the bulgarian and the english wikipedia. A global one is now on meta.

Each local page is about general on-goings as well as local ones.
Meta page aims at being about global occurences.

The page is different from the announcement page. The announcement is more oriented toward external communication (such as number of pages, special adverstisement), while the on-goings aim at mentionning community events (such as a new feature poll, elections of board of trustees).

To compare both pages :

It would be great that each wikipedia in time, set a similar page, so that information could flow more easily between wikipedia. If you do so, please do set the goings-on page locally, so that every wikipedians on *your* wikipedia can see it and participate to it, and please link it to the meta page.

For bigger wikipedia, it is also interesting to set a goings-on page to relieve the local village pump, often clogged with information request.

For small wikipedias, since it is difficult to maintain such a community page with less contributors, it makes sense to merge the goings-on in the village pump, or in the community main page (perhaps by making a separate paragraph).

I am also looking for people who would agree to update the local goings-on in their language. Please, contact me at my talk page for any support, suggestion and feedback.

Thank you very much for your attention :-) Anthere

Hei.

Helt i orden :-) Benjamin 17:38, 2 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Multilingual portal

edit

Hi. I see you just updated Www.wikipedia.org template to reflect the German Wikipedia passing 250,000 articles. When you do these updates, could you do it by copying across from Www.wikipedia.org template/temp. That page is updated daily [1] and kept up to date with all the changes that are needed, but it is almost impossible to find a meta sysop to synchronise the live page with it. Most of the time the only updates that get done are little ones here and there when someone notices, but meanwhile there is an actual page being maintained that gets ignored. I'd appreciate it if you could synchronise it so that all the updates needed are incorporated into the portal at www.wikipedia.org. Thanks a lot. Trilobite 17:56, 29 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Sure. Thanks for making me aware of that page. Benjamin 01:34, 1 Jul 2005 (UTC)
I'm sorry to bother you again, but a few hours before you did that update Node ue made a drastic change to the temp page, including removing the heading "Wikipedia" (see the history). This hasn't been discussed anywhere as far as I know, and he probably shouldn't have gone ahead and done it unilaterally. I don't wish to get into a dispute with him so I haven't reverted the temp page, but you or someone else might want to change the live page back to the consensus version that me and Mxn had been keeping updated with article counts. I'll leave it up to you and understand if you wish to stay out of it. Thanks for doing the update anyway. Trilobite 03:08, 1 Jul 2005 (UTC)
I didn't notice the changes he had made and in fact I think the heading should stay. I changed the live version to your latest revision. It would be nice if this issue was sorted out with Node.ue, that would make future updates a lot easier. Benjamin 16:08, 1 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Trust in Wikipedia

edit

this is Cathy from Hong Kong working on a research about trust on Wikipedia. I wonder if you would kindly contact me at researchingmedia@gmail.com? I'd like to chat with you about Wikipedia of your language. Would you kindly drop me your email or IM (Skype, MSN, AIM or ICQ)? It wouldn't take more than ten minutes, but it would help enormously for us to understand the overall trust-based social landscape of Wikipedia. Thank you!

Hello Benjamin. I noticed you added several links to the "[[Spam blacklist/Log]]" section, but did not update Spam blacklist/Log. Please update the log, or move them out of the logged section (higher up, just under the section titled "#These sites are redirecting requests from Wikimedia sites to a third-party site"). Thanks. —{admin} Pathoschild 04:20, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

We had some problems with them for a while, but it seems to be managable now, so I removed them. Benjamin 15:32, 7 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

JUSTICE

THE BUROCRATS ARE MAKING A NEW CHECK USER

BUT I AM WAITING FOR THEIR REPLY AT LEAST THREE VERY HEAVY DAYS

STRANGE

BECAUSE THE FIRST CHEK USER WAS REPLY IN FIVE MINUTES

THE WIKIPEDIA DO NOT HAVE A CONSUL OF ETHIC?

PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL AND HONEST WITH THE USERS OF WIKIPÉDIA

Dear Sirs,

Once again…

A group of users (friends) of Portuguese Wikipédia brings more illiberal policies regarding an non free Wikipedia without a preoccupation with a environmental and social education.

This group of users (always the same) and some administrators propose and vote systematically to erase some pages with a total absence of knowledge about the subject, some of the articles with a high importance to the community. They have a chain of contacts to promote their vote and their contacts (friends) vote without common sense, reasoning, good judgment, brains or sagacity; They vote against the person and not against the article.

Less obvious for know, but perhaps as consequential over the long term, is a less participation of some users who TRY CONTRIBUTE to this projects with articles.

Because of this behavior, I decide do not agree with their conduct and I write my point of view in there discussion pages.

I have been block for suspicion of being a sock puppet after a check user. I know I am not a sock puppet, so is impossible the check user be positive.

Several of times, I and other users asked for a check user to my account to dissipate any suspicion about the issue (because they accuse-me to be a sock puppet). But our request was always reject for these (group) users.

However, know, the “group of users” decided to make a “check user”. It is strange and uncommon, because 2 days ago they rejected my check user proposal.

In the past, they admit in their discussion pages, they make a me check user and the check user was inconclusive (this in half-words). Know the result is positive? Is impossible. I know that. I am not a “sock puppet”.

All I ask to Wikimedia foundation is that an administrator check the merits of the block and to verify the check user. Send me the results by email, because is impossible this result.

I think these groups (with administrators) are trying making a fraud to eliminate my participation. Put yourself in my shoes and imagine the frustration.

– The other user

– Me

– The checkuser rejected by “the group of users”

– The same checkuser approved by “the group of users”.

Sincerely,

Rui Resende / ratresende@gmail.com
