I am passionate about gender mainstreaming and my career path radiates a commitment to gender equity within communities through community engagements, advocacy, and application of gender intelligence in community projects. I hold a degree in Gender and Development studies from Kenyatta University and a master's degree in public policy and management, Strathmore University Business School and also an alumnus of NYU Robert Wagner.
My work
I am the Gender Lead at WMF and my role primarily involves spearheading initiatives to close the gender gap within Wikimedia projects. This includes developing strategies that enhance the participation and representation of women and marginalized genders across all aspects of the Wikimedia movement. My responsibilities encompass overseeing projects that aim to increase the diversity of contributors and content, ensuring that gender equity is prioritized in the community's values and operational practices.
Key aspects of my role include collaborating with various stakeholders to implement gender equity policies, supporting community-led initiatives, and fostering partnerships that help advance these goals. I also work towards creating more inclusive environments for contributors through advocacy, training, and resource development. Additionally, I monitor the progress of gender equity efforts, analyzing their impact, and adapting strategies to meet the evolving needs of the Wikimedia community.
