Hmm...

edit

First, sorry, I didn't notice your message until i checked my feed reader because Smeira wrote a message after you. Second, hmm..., after Lar's comment on Requests for permissions page, and my new investigation related to my and Adambro's relations, I realized that it was misunderstanding. (And I sent to him an email with an excuse.) Sometime, somewhere, if you would still be interested, I'll explain to you how it was developed... --Millosh 20:02, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Ok. --Thogo (talk) 20:13, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Log access

edit

Discussion was getting off topic! I think stewards should have constant access to CU logs (if they desire) and thanks for starting the process --Herby talk thyme 18:21, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Hm, I think all people (including stewards) should only get those accesses that they really need permanently. All others can be given and removed on demand. But I would anyway not oppose getting permanent log access of course, if someone decides that all stewards shall get it. --Thogo (talk) 18:33, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
Personally I would welcome it. You should be able to access the information & be aware of what is being done from my point of view. In passing it is frequently helpful in cross wiki vandal issues, regards --Herby talk thyme 19:04, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
Maybe. You could set a note on foundation-l and gather some opinions. --Thogo (talk) 19:25, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
Policy in the past was, I believe, that all stewards get CU on meta so they can have log access. Pathoschild chose to stand (and I joined him in running at the same time) but he didn't necessarily have to just for log access. ++Lar: t/c 21:55, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
Hm, ok... I would like to help with the crosswiki or small wiki CU requests anyway. They seem to be the most time costly stuff a steward can be confronted with (as seen in the Andranikpasha case), so most people avoid it as it seems. ;o) --Thogo (talk) 07:54, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

This relates to the above (if you have not seen it). Thanks --Herby talk thyme 09:13, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

I've seen it, yes. (I added that clarification there, but forgot to mention it on the talk page for which Lar made up.) Thank you. :o) --Thogo (talk) 09:25, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Let me know if I can offer any other support - I do think this is important, regards --Herby talk thyme 09:33, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
You could look at the changes on the rewrite page and maybe add something about stewards' CU access on Meta for log access. I don't know how to phrase it. ;o) --Thogo (talk) 09:35, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Inactivity

edit

You may want to read some of the comments here. The policy was easy really, the reactions are unhelpful. I did quite a lot of work on that one (& have been involved with the books one), let me know if I can help at all, regards --Herby talk thyme 19:53, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Re:Stop

edit

I am not using a robbery, sorry was only giving the welcome because I think it is essential to at least familiarize those who arrive in the project Vander 20:47, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Ok I was not aware of that policy here, sorry, I will archive the messages then delete them to create the file. Vander 22:33, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Voting eligibility

edit

Needs review along with admin eligibility (something constructive should have happened here). However as the user's third edit I do not see it as valid. IIRC I had a vote of mine discounted on simple wp because I only had 6 or so edits! --Herby talk thyme 12:58, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

In that particular situation, Herby, the vote was very close to the boundary, and the bcrat had no choice. You've been counted for the checkuser polls on simple WP, so you aren't discounted just because you are new. It's because you voted differently to the majority of the users active there, and they had no real choice over it. Majorly (talk) 13:07, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
Any help you can give would be good Thogo. For both of you - anyone who edits is part of the community (including IPs) and has every right to their opinion however that does not mean that they can vote on community issues. I have no problem at all being not counted on simple (assuming it was within policy) I was merely using it as an illustration of what does happen --Herby talk thyme 13:27, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

RfCU closing times

edit

Not that I disagree but the ones I've been involved with have never had a strict closing time given the 25 vote requirement. Obviously ridiculous but one on en wb ran for over 6 months. I have no idea what might be a "correct" time to run it for but equally a week maybe is short? Regards --Herby talk thyme 08:21, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Ah right. I just equalled it to the RfAs, but it can't be processed by bureaucrats anyway, so I'll change it to the 25 votes. --Thogo (talk) 08:37, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Um - Pathoschild objected (IIRC) when there was a suggestion of closing I think Lar's "early" though. It is one of those areas which lacks any real policy given how rarely the rights are granted or anyone is likely to stand. --Herby talk thyme 08:52, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Sysopbits removal

edit

Hi Thogo,

I am often busy at studies so I can not be there all times at Sardinian Wikipedia, I hope you will understand. Recently, about two weeks ago, a new user was candidatured, http://sc.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utente:Elcaracol and it seems u made him Sysop with only 1 vote pro. I do not agree with this candidature, I am current sysop at Sc.wiki. He is right it is small Wikipedia, and his vote is open 2 weeks, but my Semester has just began and I am very busy these past two weeks!! So I does not had time to address this issue. If I seen it I would voted against it immediately. Thanks! --M64 21:43, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Why would you have opposed? And why not letting him help? There might be a need for a sysop, while you're busy, and if you are the only one, nobody does the tasks. It's never good to have only one (active) sysop in a project, since nobody can be online 24/7. --Thogo (talk) 21:52, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
His main reason for sysop was to make work against a consensus-made policy regarding orthographics on Bichipedia. We try to use LSC, the official spelling of the Sardinian Region, but he tries to replace it with a orthography he made up himself in his native dialect. We have already a compromise established where pages can be created for example at Page's name/campidanesu in campidanese dialect, and linked from that page, but he is not content with it. We also have Drini as a sysop, and last night when some users needed banned it was him, not Elcaracol, who removed them. --M64 19:25, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
The community has decided to give him sysop rights, you came too late to take part in this decision (that's sad, but we can't do anything). I'm not allowed to decide to contradict this community decision and remove his sysop access. Please make a community decision to remove his sysop bit, if you think that this is necessary. It was granted temporarily only, so it will expire and thus be removed on 28 April anyway. --Thogo (talk) 13:42, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

Help Cleanup

edit

Some who knows this language needs to complete translation and clean it up Help:圖片及其他上載的檔案. I have no idea where else to request this. Phatom87 17:55, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, but I don't know this language. Please ask someone of this group of people. --Thogo (talk) 13:44, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

Your opinions about Karakalpak Wikipedia

edit

Hi Thomas! I read your last opinion in Karakalpak Wikipedia request page and was surprised. Before you supported this request and now you are predicting a complete failure. Which of your opinions are the real? What is your basis for predicting such an unfavorable outcome? Could you any comments, if you can? Thanks in advance, Atabek 02:39, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi Atabek. I support this request, I just asked the person who added this "complete failure" thing to elaborate this, it was not my opinion. :) Maybe I should have added a signature to the other line, I'll fix that. --Thogo (talk) 13:42, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
Now it is clear, sorry for misunderstanding. :-) Atabek 03:41, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Language templates

edit

Hello Thomas. You had a manual list of languages spoken on your user page with categories, which I replaced with the standard {{user language}} template. Is that okay? If not, I'll add the standard sort keys to the categories manually. :) —{admin} Pathoschild 00:09:15, 04 February 2008 (UTC)

Ok, thank you for sorting that out. ;O) We'll probably have to go through all these categories, there are plenty of them that are completely unused and plenty are used but not created. And I found highly unnecessary double categories. --Thogo (talk) 07:44, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi Thomas. Just wanted to let you know that I have changed my request from permanent sysop to a temporary sys op. Here is the link: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_permissions/Archives/2008/02#.D5.8E.D5.A1.D5.A6.D5.A3.D5.A5.D5.B6.40hy.wikisource Վազգեն 19:00, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Babel templates

edit

Some users find it's not good. You can't just change a userpage. Please ask first or subst:. Ælsån 18:22, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Just change it back, but note that the old templates will be deleted soon. Btw., yes, I can change user pages. It's a wiki. --Thogo (talk) 18:23, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
Why I subst: [1]. Not all users look each day to their userpage. Ælsån 18:26, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
You must use subst: also with the {{User xx}} templates since these are obsolete and are subject to deletion. --Thogo (talk) 18:30, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
I've done too. Then it's good but I still think all users need to be informed. Ælsån 18:35, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
No, informing all users would need too much work. If they look into Meta they will see it anyway, and if they have email notification on they will see it too. It's already a lot of work to convert all the pages (we could just delete the old templates and let it by that, but we think it's better for the people who are not that familiar with Meta to help them converting, so it's a service of us). --Thogo (talk) 18:38, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
Or use MediaWiki:Sitenotice. Ælsån 18:42, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
Yes, maybe that's a good idea. I'll discuss that with Pathoschild. --Thogo (talk) 18:45, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
Good, another example: [2] Ælsån 18:47, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Does did also go for wikies like Incubator and Betawiki? Need I to subst: babel there too? Ælsån 18:56, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

No. That's only for Meta. --Thogo (talk) 18:58, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

I recreated the da-1 user template because there doesn't exist any new template with Danish text. --Boivie 09:04, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

No, I don't want to put Danish text there, I want to use the traditional user language templates. At least until them new strange ones are fully functional. Besides, I don't know Danish that well, I only have da-1 ;) --Boivie 09:18, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
My main concern isn't my own page, where a subst would solve your problem. I'm thinking more about users that will do like this: [3], [4], [5], [6]. --Boivie 13:26, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

Kannst du mir erklären, was dieser Quark eigentlich soll? Gibt es jetzt hier einen Babelkrieg? Ich sehe keinen Nutzen an einer Änderung. Marcus Cyron 19:37, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

*kotz* --Thogo (talk) 07:57, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

Language box translations

edit

Hello Thogo. I noticed that you're the only user on Meta listed for some of your language fluencies; if you have time, please translate the template into those languages. You can do so by following the "Translate this template!" links in the language boxes on your user pages. Thanks. :) —{admin} Pathoschild 16:10:05, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

I know. ;o) I did one of them already. --Thogo (talk) 17:03, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Thank you

edit

Thank you very much for granting me 3 months' access this time... much appreciated and even should thank you for inviting me for the cross-wiki coordination channel. Sorry for posting request at incorrect place, will remember it after 3 months, but can you tell me what would be the procedure to get a permanent access? or will I need to always come back at the expiry of existing access rights?--Dsvyas 14:35, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Thank you once again for your answer, I did thank spacebirdy as well. As you have suggested, I had and still have the poll open, and we have a few (definately around 5) reguklar/irregular contributors, however they don't seem to be interested in voting or probably they don't know about the vote. I am not sure whether is it a good attiquate to approach Users and ask them to Vote for me on their User pages (but even if I do this, what i have realsied is, the users don't seem to be checking their user pages). Anyways, please advise if it would be all right for me to approach users asking to particiapte in poll on their User talk.--Dsvyas 11:32, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
Thats what I thought, that it must not be a nice thing to ask people to vote, and as I had mentioned earlier, problem with our Gujarati community is that, hardly anybody visits main Talk page or if they visit, they hardly read and contribute there. Anyways, my purpose is to have Admin rights to improve it, regardless it is permanent or ongoing temporary. There are only two votes since it began and I have no hope to recieve any more votes on my voting page. Thanks once again for your help and support, will get back to you if I need any more info or help.--Dsvyas 12:24, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia-Logo in der niedersorbischen Wikipedia

edit

Hallo Thogo.

User language box translation

edit

Hello Thogo. Thank you very much for translating {{user language}}. The template has recently been changed to add two new levels, 0 and 4 (see detailed descriptions). Please update Template:User language/de-arz, Template:User language/sux, and Template:User language/sxu:

  • 0: this user cannot read or write sxu.
  • 4: this user can contribute at a near-native level in sxu. —{admin} Pathoschild 00:26:37, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Oversight

edit

[7] Would you, in your opinion, say that Meta should have its own oversight people? If you're willing to get the opinions of other stewards (on the steward list, for instance), it might help. Danke. ~Kylu (u|t) 16:16, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Yes, I think that would be good. I guess it will not be necessary that often, but as you saw, sometimes it is. (And that deletion was on a page with >5000 revisions, so a "normal" deletion just didn't work.) I would volunteer, if nobody has objections. --Thogo (talk) 19:27, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Problem with username

edit

Hi, I would like to ask you to change my username at: [8] I have problems with the login as described there... If possible, could you rename it? thanks in advance. SF007 15:24, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

I'm not a bureaucrat, please ask them to do that. --Thogo (talk) 17:52, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
Ok, thanks, anyway, it is already solved. SF007 10:41, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
