Survey link error fixed
editHi there, there was a error with the Inspire survey link that caused the survey to be shown as expired, but has now been fixed. The link in the above message should now bring you to the survey. Apologies, I JethroBT (WMF) 19:20, 31 March 2017 (UTC)
Oauth Consumer proposal
editGreetings. I proposed an oauth consumer application: Wikigenomes, that you approved before. I have proposed another under my bot account MicrobeBot, called Chlambase, that specifies the callback URL. It was working, with a configured raw IP address then it expired. Now I have submitted a new proposal with the domain name "www.chlambase.org" as the configured url callback, while allowing consumer to specifiy callback url and I am getting different errors. Mainly E002 saying that I didn't supply a callback. I am using python mwoauth and including it. Not sure what is wrong, or who to ask about this. I can resubmit a proposal under this user account rather than my bot account if that helps simplify the situation as well. Cheers Putmantime (talk) 20:34, 13 April 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Putmantime! Can you join #wikimedia-labsconnect and ping me (I'm "halfak" in IRC). It'll be easier to help you synchronously. :) --EpochFail (talk) 20:37, 13 April 2017 (UTC)
- Great! Connecting now. Cheers Putmantime (talk) 21:13, 13 April 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you for the help and for approving so quickly! I just had to re-propose again unfortunately, to remove the www. from the url and clean up the name. Sorry about the inconvenience. No rush on the approval. Cheers Putmantime (talk) 22:23, 13 April 2017 (UTC)

Hi Again EpochFail! Wikidata user Djow2019 has taken over development of a Wikigenomes spinoff site I worked on called Chlambase.org that will allow users to make some similar wikidata edits involving bacterial genomes. He put in a proposal for a new consumer license here Chlambase Proposal and hasn't heard back on approval after a few weeks. I was hoping you could help like you did for me?...or suggest who to reach out to?
Cheers Putmantime (talk) 23:03, 14 June 2018 (UTC)
- Hi Putmantime! Sorry for the late response. Done --EpochFail (talk) 20:34, 20 June 2018 (UTC)
OAuth - request for deleting a request
editHi, I've saw you've approved my testing OAuth request. I'd like to have Special:OAuthConsumerRegistration/update/ef7a36e4253bae2c27231cab71cb27de deleted as I've requested it mistakely. Thank you in advance! --Martin Urbanec (talk) 13:38, 19 April 2017 (UTC)
- Martin Urbanec, The best I can do is reject that request, so I've done that. Please feel free to ping me again here again if you want me to look at a future consumer request for you :) --EpochFail (talk)
This template is transcluded in 400+ pages. Is semi-protection needed? --George Ho (talk) 15:02, 30 April 2017 (UTC)
- George Ho, we haven't had a problem so far, but we also haven't had any contributions with non-confirmed users to this or related templates over years. So I guess that semi-protection sounds like a fine idea to me. We might want to also protect the dependencies and redirects.

I saw that you have contributed to Research:Content persistence, which I can praise for your good work. I can't tell whether it's still in progress or fully completed. Also, adding "research project" without indicating the status would result in the big red "X" with "failed" input or something. BTW, your talk page is getting longer. Any plans to archive old messages? --George Ho (talk) 19:31, 8 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hi George Ho! Thanks for the praise re. Research:Content persistence. It's not really a research project but more of documentation page. Whereas Research:Measuring edit productivity is more of a project page. That project has been on my back-burner for a while. I pick it up whenever I get a chance to extend it. I've recently got some interest in turning the data processing job into a recurring thing. That would allow me to really start exploring Research:WikiCredit. --EpochFail (talk) 20:37, 8 May 2017 (UTC)
- You're welcome. :-) --George Ho (talk) 20:44, 8 May 2017 (UTC)
Your files here
editHi! Could you take some time and move your files here to Commons? Or, at least, provide some description and licensing information for those which do not have it, such as File:Vandal fighter activity.2007.no bots.png (it is not the only one with the problem). I would hate deleting them, but without the information and according to Meta:Fair use they would have to go if not fixed. Thanks! --Base (talk) 11:52, 13 October 2017 (UTC)
- Oh wow. I must have uploaded those before I really knew how to use commons effectively. I'll get to it. Thanks for the ping, Base. --EpochFail (talk) 22:08, 13 October 2017 (UTC)
- Done! All files licensed by me as CC-BY-SA, moved to commons and deleted from meta. :) --EpochFail (talk) 16:35, 14 October 2017 (UTC)

Approx deletion rate for established articles

The stats were very useful for the number of newly created articles that are deleted (meta:Research:Wikipedia_article_creation), but I couln't find any equivalent for deletion of established articles. Any rough useful, detailed stats a bonus! T.Shafee(Evo﹠Evo)talk 02:09, 27 August 2019 (UTC)

AI legislation
editDear EpochFail,
I contact you since you are marked among the "People who are interested" in Advanced technology page. As you might already know, the EU is working about a regulation of the AI environment, in order to promote its potential and at the same time to protect the citizens from unwanted uses. It is going to be an important moment for achieving the most empowering, safe and clear definition of the rights and duties related to the AI, affecting also Wikimedia's opportunities, not only inside EU. I kindly invite you to participate to the discussion, firstly by commenting the page that is dedicated to it, in order to draft Wikimedia's answers to this legislative initiative of the EU.
The linked page contains the questions from the public consultation by the European Commission on its Artificial Intelligence White Paper.
The EU's survey will remain open until 14 June 2020, but we will take input into account until 31 May 2020.
Thanks, --sNappy(talk) 21:16, 17 May 2020 (UTC)

The 2021 Community Wishlist Survey is now open! This survey is the process where communities decide what the Community Tech team should work on over the next year. We encourage everyone to submit proposals until the deadline on 30 November, or comment on other proposals to help make them better. The communities will vote on the proposals between 8 December and 21 December.
The Community Tech team is focused on tools for experienced Wikimedia editors. You can write proposals in any language, and we will translate them for you. Thank you, and we look forward to seeing your proposals!
18:26, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
We invite all registered users to vote on the 2021 Community Wishlist Survey. You can vote from now until 21 December for as many different wishes as you want.
In the Survey, wishes for new and improved tools for experienced editors are collected. After the voting, we will do our best to grant your wishes. We will start with the most popular ones.
We, the Community Tech, are one of the Wikimedia Foundation teams. We create and improve editing and wiki moderation tools. What we work on is decided based on results of the Community Wishlist Survey. Once a year, you can submit wishes. After two weeks, you can vote on the ones that you're most interested in. Next, we choose wishes from the survey to work on. Some of the wishes may be granted by volunteer developers or other teams.
We are waiting for your votes. Thank you!

AI call 16 May
editHi, you're getting this message as you've signed up as interested in the topic at the Artificial intelligence page.
You might already be aware of this, but in case you had missed other announcements I wanted to send out a reminder about the Wikimedia AI call which is happening tomorrow, 16 May, at 14:00 UTC. There will be presentations from various parts of the movement, with space for questions and discussion. The call will be recorded, if one prefers to watch if afterwards.
See Wikimedia Foundation Annual Plan/2024-2025/Collaboration/AI call for agenda and sign-up. Johan (WMF) (talk) 14:20, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
