Message to Village Pump

edit

Hi! I noticed your message to ukwiki Village Pump about the sound logo contest. I translated it there; it was polite of you to leave a line about posting it English. I was wondering though, whether I can suggest you use the Translate system next time (assuming the sound logo contest is not the last ever thing you plan to do with the communities).
The procedure that I am used to looks like this: an interested person writes a message in English on their subpage (just like you did), then the message is marked for translation by a translation admin, then the person asks volunteer translators to translate a message to as many languages as possible (it is possible to sent out a notification while marking a page for translation, but it is also nice to send a note to translators-l mailing list) and gives them a few days, and then a MassMessage sender sends it out to the list of pages, and the translated version gets posted to the Village Pump in respective language and all other pages get the original message English.
Of course, this method is not always suitable, as it requires more time for preparation and less flexibility with text, but it is great for recurring newsletters like Tech/News and Education/News and IMHO is just right for the announcements like this one, too.
I hope this is helpful to you. Best of luck in your future dealings with announcements to multilingual communities, – Ата (talk) 18:56, 17 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your constructive feedback, Ata! I'll forward your feedback to internal team. Have a great day. :) Arupako-WMF (talk) 08:35, 18 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Sound logo contest notice on English Wikipedia

Regarding this edit, just a note: I don't think you have to apologize for posting a message in English on English Wikipedia. It's a bit distracting as it causes readers to wonder why you're apologizing. isaacl (talk) 04:05, 19 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi Isaacl, thank you so much for noticing this issue, I already updated the announcement. I forgot to delete that part. Arupako-WMF (talk) 08:05, 19 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
