Welcome, human

I don't know how to do these cool redirects from one wiki to another, so if you need me you'll have to go here the old-fashioned way. Thanks, Drmies (talk)

To blacklist?

edit

Should we globally title blacklist based on your user name? You seem to have an imitating admirer, and we know that your uniqueness needs to be preserved. :-) Ping me if you think that we should.  — billinghurst sDrewth 06:35, 20 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi

Hi Drmies!

Nice to see an old familiar wikipedian participating on Meta. I am not sure if you remember me, but I remember you as one of the few who did not completely ignore me. Even though it has only been a couple of years, I hardly recognize the place anymore. Many oltimers are gone, some retired, others kicked out. Sure seemms like a brutal world. And I agree with you it is a beautiful project, in some respects, but it can be even more. Regards, Ottawahitech (talk) 13:31, 24 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Your global sysop candidature

edit

Hello, it seems the global sysop toolset might not be exactly what you're looking for (as others have mentioned, it doesn't have any affect at en.wikiquote, one of the targeted projects). Global rollbacker would allow you to rollback everywhere, and it might be more useful in terms of damage control, as it's truly global. Best, --Martin Urbanec (talk) 18:37, 13 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Alternatively, perhaps joining the IRC community could be a good choice as well - there is almost always a steward available in #wikimedia-stewards, and for this kind of a troll, a global lock is the correct type of response, as noted at [1]. The easiest way to join is https://webchat.freenode.net, I'd be more than happy to help if you have any IRC issues. Best, --Martin Urbanec (talk) 19:08, 13 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Martin; I appreciate that. Drmies (talk) 20:35, 13 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Sorry to see how it went, and I sympathize, having had to interact with law enforcement before (but thankfully only once). IRC is probably the quickest way to get a response. But other than that, sadly the best way to get stuff like this taken care of is indeed building a network of admins/CU/OS at other wikis that will respond. That, and working for incremental changes (such as enforcing our existing inactivity policies and removing bad admins) that will hopefully make the problem better over time. --Rschen7754 03:52, 14 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
What I don't get is "strong oppose", or "you need to do more cross-wiki work"--it's like a bunch of them didn't even read the rationale. I'm still trying to figure out how to do global settings, and that's the other thing: it seems like there's a lot of people for whom IT is their job, and they don't understand how people don't understand what they are saying, or what the consequences of their innovations are. Unified login is the worst thing that ever happened, as far as I'm concerned. Drmies (talk) 14:12, 14 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, there's always been a lot of hesitancy around GR and GS since the use of those is hard to monitor across the hundreds of wikis - and language barriers can be an issue. But there is indeed some elitism on Meta which has disproportionately hit many enwiki candidates for Meta admin/global rights/steward, unfortunately. --Rschen7754 18:31, 15 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
A random user here, but what nonsense do you mean by "Unified login is the worst thing that ever happened"? I think it's one of the *best* things - you must be a very tiny minority... Leaderboard (talk) 11:56, 22 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
And I am seeing this only now, but I would have also opposed with a statement saying that the request itself is junk. By your line of thought I should be requesting admin whenever I want to delete a spam page... Sorry. That being said, I'm sorry to hear that you're apparently being doxxed by those clones of spam accounts. Leaderboard (talk) 11:58, 22 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Well, "random user", so you're calling my request "junk", while at the same time claiming you have sympathy. "By your line of reasoning": that's ignorant. These are not "spam accounts", and the doxxing has been going on for three years, so that "line of thought" comparison is just something you pulled out of your ass. The cross-wiki vandalism happens precisely because of unified log in. But Leaderboard, please don't bother coming back here to explain yourself: I don't give a rat's ass for what else you have to say. Drmies (talk) 15:08, 22 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
If this is what you have to say, then I don't think you deserve any further tools. Especially "I don't give a rat's ass for what else you have to say". If you were applying to any further roles, this attitude would be a serious red flag. In future, make sure to understand each person's ideas properly instead of insulting them. Leaderboard (talk) 06:54, 23 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Leaderboard, have you tried empathy? Yes, maybe his request for GS was misguided but that's not what he needs to hear right now. --Rschen7754 07:14, 23 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Leaderboard, I understand your ideas perfectly--that you don't understand mine, at all, that is the problem here. No need to respond--but I asked you that before. Drmies (talk) 17:46, 23 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
