Re: Community support

edit

«Finally, with all of your references to "community", it also sounds to me like like you're trying to gain some support from our community». Err, what are you doing then? It's good to have discussions in the agorà where competitors try to rationally convince their audience. This is how democracy was born. The USA even use a similar method to decide lawsuits, go figure! (Granted, that looks very outdated from a European point of view.) Nemo 19:27, 22 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Well, two things here: first, my accusation was not one of democracy, but one of populism and of turning one group against another — both the kind of dirty politics I personally hate. Second, your implicit assumption is that Lila and staff are "competitors" (your word!) — or, if you prefer, opposing parties; that's not true, we're part of the same hierarhical, organization (she's our boss!). The fact that Lila's email sounded like we are indeed divided on this is exactly part of the point I was trying to make. Faidon Liambotis (WMF) (talk) 13:49, 23 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
"Competitors" is a reference to the debates in the agora. There is nothing bad about rational debates. Nemo 21:21, 18 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
Also I'm sorry if this sounds stupid, but why are you revolting anyway? Has someone ever written down exactly what the problem here is? I have been following the lists, admittedly not very carefully, and really, I don't notice anything particularly out of the ordinary… odder (talk) 19:32, 22 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
It does not sound stupid, no. There are quite a few issues, most of which can be described as organizational chaos (issues around management, processes, strategy, new initiatives etc.) that are not always apparent to non-employees. Some of these are externally visible, though, such as staff and executive attrition, the fact that engineering is effectively headless for about 18 months now or the whole KE mess (internal & external). Molly's timeline is an nice reference of what has happened in the past 2 years or so. Faidon Liambotis (WMF) (talk) 13:49, 23 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
Of course I know much more than the timeline says. Nemo 21:21, 18 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
