My Complaint
editIn 2008, I wrote the bulk of the Ada Lovelace page [1]. Since then, edit-a-thons have encouraged people to add nonsense, rumor, and outright problematic statements (example: "In the 1840s, Ada flirted with scandals: firstly from a relaxed relationship with men who were not her husband, which led to rumours of affairs[32]—and secondly, her love of gambling.").
These edit-a-thons, which you have promoted the current one, have damaged many pages. It is not about gender but about skillful crafting of a thoroughly researched, informative, on topic history of an individual's life. Yet media reports still rely on the previous edit-a-thons taking credit of my work and passing it off as if it was part of the edit-a-thon, while ignoring the horrors that were actually added.
I originally fixed the page because I was approached by a group of users who wanted it to be in a semi-decent state and I have an academic background in British Romanticism (and Byron). I did not finish because there were other pressing matters and later issues. I was the original vocal opposition to the GLAM projects and the edit-a-thons, and what came as a result only verified my fears regarding amateurs being set loose en masse on delicate pages.
In short, I am greatly disappointed in your participation in furthering such problems and being connected to its many serious problems. Ottava Rima (talk) 02:29, 15 October 2013 (UTC)
- This from a user who has been blocked from English Wikipedia since 2009!--Pharos (talk) 03:10, 15 October 2013 (UTC)

- I know that this is a novel idea to you Ottava, but you should try offering to help Girona instead of blasting her good intentions. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 03:48, 15 October 2013 (UTC)
- I'm blasting the edit a thons which are known to put in a lot of problems like the above quote. Wonderful additions such as "This set of events made Ada famous in Victorian society." Off topic commentary that makes it more akin to the Daily Mail celebrity gossip piece than an encyclopedia. Hell, the lead does nothing of the sort and instead contains commentary that is completely inappropriate. Anyone looking at the page would instantly know there are serious issues. Yet the edit a thon claimed it as one of their achievements when the only real encyclopedic matters was from my work 4 years before. Ottava Rima (talk) 04:05, 15 October 2013 (UTC)
