Wikivoyage logo proposal

Hi, Isarra. :) Another editor would like for your earlier proposal, File:WV logo v28.png, to be considered in the new logo selection process. Its had to be withdrawn for now to seek your permission, since the rules require that the creator agree to the submission rules. If you mean File:Travel boat blue logo.svg etc, I would agree to all conditions that are possible to meet, however copyright-related exclusivity is not one of them as I have already released the files into the public domain, something which I understand to be irrevocable. Considering some of the submissions (and existing project logos) never make it out of the public domain in the first place, I'm not sure I understand that requirement, however. Question about final submission

Hi, Isarra. We're getting ready to go into the first round of voting, and - as you can see here - there are currently multiple designs by you that will be voted on. This is perfectly fine if that's what you choose. There is some concern that variants of a single design may "split the vote", since people only have three choices, so that you could have more voters across your designs but less for any one and thus not be selected. If yours is one of the top three usable designs, there's an opportunity to submit multiple colors to select the best after the first round of voting. I wanted to ask you, given that, if you'd like to narrow down your submission. If so, can you either please remove the others from Wikivoyage/Logo/2013/R1/Gallery or make a note at Talk:Wikivoyage/Logo/2013/R1/Gallery that you'd like them removed before, say, 2300 today (25 July)? The vote is supposed to start tomorrow.

Global CSS/JS migration

Hello Isarra. You have global scripts in global.js and common.js/global.js, which you import using your local CSS/JS pages. Since August 2014, your global.js and global.css pages are loaded automatically on all wikis. Do you want me to merge the global scripts and remove the global imports from your local pages using Synchbot (without touching other scripts)? —Pathoschild 03:00, 22 June 2015 (UTC)

Yep. I can copy common.js/global.js into global.js (without editing common.js/global.js itself), and remove references to common.js/global.js on all wikis (since global.js is loaded automatically) while leaving any other scripts intact. Would that be okay? —Pathoschild 13:10, 22 June 2015 (UTC)

You can target specific skins in the CSS:

.skin-vector div#content { color: #000; }

Problem is the user css doesn't support nesting, or really any LESS features, so every bloody thing would need that right before it, which is horrible for readability.

FWIW, I'm not a steward, and the only reason I'm even clerking these pages is because the bot that used to do it seems not to be running at the moment. Newsletter suggestion: overt sub/unsub link

A thought for your consideration with the newsletter. @Gryllida: PHP and MediaWiki are, along with design, basically the only parts of this that I can do - while one or more others to also work on these aspects wouldn't go amiss either, what is truly needed is people to handle the rest of it: the management, administrative overhead, outreach, and community engagement to actually drive the development work itself. These aspects of the project, it turns out, are a lot of work, far more than I realised, and not only am I not qualified to complete them anywhere near as effectively as a project of this nature deserves, they're not even a single-person role to begin with. What is success?

(Beyond the title of a pretty groovy 70s funk tune) I just wanted to say a few things. First, that I appreciate the honesty and detail you put into your final grant report for WPX. Second, that I expect that it was hard to do that, and I think the fact you did it anyway reflects well on you. Third, to confess here and now that I frequently fail to meet deadlines, requirements, and expectations (my own especially, but also others'), breaking my heart and grinding down my self esteem in the process--every time. Fourth, that I have often found that projects of mine I initially viewed as failures (and in many cases evidence of systemic personal failings), have often turned out to be more productive, generative, valuable, and successful than I imagined. So for what it's worth, all that.

Anyway, I appreciate the work you did on WikiProject X. I think it has been innovative and useful, and I don't think the project was a mistake or even that it necessarily failed. Nice work; I hope you don't burn out forever. Jmorgan (WMF) (talk) 16:57, 30 September 2019 (UTC)

@Jmorgan (WMF): Mmm, perhaps 'failed' isn't the right word, in terms of the project itself. We certainly messed it up, but we also did a lot right, and there is a lot to learn from and use from what actually came out of it, too. If nothing else, I should be able to continue to put it to use on other ones.

• The Wikipore Day Unconference was held in July, with about 20 participants - see etherpad. A suggested path forward is the "movement tactic" of regular collaborations, like a Spore of the Month or a Feature of the Fortnight.
• Some newer proposed projects at Wikispore: STARDIT (using mw:Extension:Cargo), Works Spore, WikiCite. (Comment on their talk pages!)
• On Saturday August 14, there will be a Wikimania lightning talk on Wikispore and Innovating Free Knowledge at 18:10 - 18:20 UTC, followed a few minutes later by an unconference group session for Wikimedians Innovating New Genres.

Wikispore lunch in Berlin

Wikisporadic, an Occasional Newsletter for our Germinating Community.

• Oral knowledge We held a session on oral knowledge and Wikispore as part of Options Space at Wikimedia Summit 2022 in Berlin, looking at options with several African affiliates to link out to cultural topics from Wikipedia(s). Some African communities are already doing oral knowledge documentation like the Nigerian community working on oral history as well as the growing Mozambican community working on oral history documentation in Makhuwa language. This is a way to provide more sources as well as digitize some oral parts of their history.
• Wikidata integration There is a plan to install the new UnlinkedWikibase extension, advancing the vision of Wikisprout and full Wikidata integration such as use in infoboxes.
• Movement strategy Using the Cargo and related extensions on Wikispore, work is underway to create a demo of Movement Strategy activities, adapting Baserow data from Wikimedia Summit.
• Halloween event As a Wikidata 10th Birthday event, there is hope to collaborate at the end of October with Wiki Cemeteries User Group on Grave Spore (see discussion), for maps and in-depth coverage of individual graves.
