Hello Jpilisuk!, and welcome to the Wikimedia Meta-Wiki! This website is for coordinating and discussing all Wikimedia projects. You may find it useful to read our policy page. If you are interested in doing translations, visit Meta:Babylon. You can also leave a note on Meta:Babel or Wikimedia Forum (please read the instructions at the top of the page before posting there). Happy editing! — Mikhailov Kusserow (talk) 22:52, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
Hi, I'm Jeff Pilisuk. I am volunteering at Wikimedia to assist with the fundraising survey project. Please leave me a note below.
Welcome Jeff. Rand Montoya 20:54, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
Hi Jeff, Rand just directed me to the Fundraising Survey 2009 you put up, and although I haven't read everything yet, I wanted to compliment you with your work so far! Your work looks very well-considered and I can’t wait to see the results. Also, I like the fact that you build in time to collect community feedback on building the questionnaire.
During the weekend I’ll make sure to find some time to read everything more closely and (try to) give constrictive feedback. I’m pretty sure the results will be extremely useful as well for our Dutch Wikimedia Chapter, so everything’s in my own interest as well.
Best regards, m:Mark W (Mwpnl) ¦ talk 23:01, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
- Whoops! Are we supposed to edit our envisioned improvements to the study description itself, or do you prefer "talk" about it, and you make the edits? If the latter, shouldn't you consider protecting the main study page, and making it more clear where and how to provide guidance? -- Thekohser 19:17, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
Experience
editJeff, do you have any experience or real-world credentials in the field of market research or survey design? Without trying to be rude or dismissive of your honorable volunteer efforts, I am seeing palpable signs that this study is lacking in field research experience. For example, it's been proposed to design the questionnaire, then decide the sample population who will respond to it. Classic case of "ready, fire, aim". I've left a voicemail for Mr. Montoya. I'm making myself available to the Foundation, if they wish to avail themselves of my 17 years in the marketing research practice. -- Thekohser 19:54, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
- I have a Masters in Business Administration and more than 15 years experience in marketing, business development, and new product development. I have done a fair share of market research in my career, but I am by no means a survey design or field research expert. This is exactly why your feedback, and feedback from others in the community is greatly appreciated. Thanks for your input. jpilisuk 20:41, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
Currency converter
editHi Jeff,
Currently there are some questions in the Fundraising survey who ask for a monatairy amount in USD. As you might know, a few countries speaking the languages we’re going to translate to do not use the US-dollar, but the Euro or other currencies. Although you provided a link to a online conversion this might scare people away.
It might be better to include a conversion-widget with those questions that won’t require people to leave the websites. I’ve searched the internet for a few examples, and the ones used here seem to work quite nicely.
Let me me know what you think. Best regards, m:Mark W (Mwpnl) ¦ talk 01:20, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
- I'll check it out. I'm not sure how well the widget will work with the LimeSurvey tool, but I will take a look. Also, we are having the survey translated so it may be possible to convert the monetary amounts based on each language. Thanks for your input. jpilisuk 6:09, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
Status report?
editJeff, could you please give the Wikimedia community an update on the status of the 2009 Fundraising Survey? Thank you in advance. -- Thekohser 16:39, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
- Sure, will do. We're a little behind schedule; I will post an update shortly. jpilisuk 17:06, 07 July 2009 (UTC)
- An update will be appreciated. -- Thekohser 20:08, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
- As far as I know, Jeff is busy inputing and testing the translations. Cbrown1023 talk 03:51, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
- I will give an update on the timing shortly. I have been inputting the survey into the LimeSurvey tool. Entering the survey in 11 languages is taking much longer than anticipated, and my availability over the last few weeks has been less than expected. As soon as I am close to completing the input into the survey tool, and after I have worked out the testing schedule, I will post an update. Thanks for your patience. jpilisuk 18:30, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
- If anyone had sought my advice, I would have said that 3 or 4 languages would have covered about 98% of the possibly meaningful respondent base. I wish one of the Foundation's many paid staff members would have coordinated more of this grunt work, but I guess it was easier to shovel it onto the willing plate of a non-paid volunteer. -- Thekohser 20:35, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
- Well, it's been about half a year. Any news on the 2009 Fundraising Survey front? -- Thekohser 21:43, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
