Welcome to Meta!
editHello, Kritzolina. Welcome to the Wikimedia Meta-Wiki! This website is for coordinating and discussing all Wikimedia projects. You may find it useful to read our policy page. If you are interested in doing translations, visit Meta:Babylon. You can also leave a note on Meta:Babel or Wikimedia Forum if you need help with something (please read the instructions at the top of the page before posting there). Happy editing!
Please be aware that there is a word limit of 1000 words for all your answers in total. You used so far 933 words according to my counting tool in Libre Office Writer, but other candidates are already above the limit.
The word limit exists to limit the effort for our translators who will translate your text into several languages so that people who do not understand English can vote for you. Der-Wir-Ing ("DWI") talk 09:57, 29 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Der-Wir-Ing, thanks for notifying me about this issue. My counting tool gave me a similar number as yours and I decided to leave it at that, even if I have a lot more things I could write about. I definitely understand the problems of translating such pages and want to thank everyone involved in the effort! Kritzolina (talk) 13:04, 29 May 2024 (UTC)
Optional question for Board Election candidacy
editA mistake in the candidate application was brought to the attention of the Election Committee, accidentally duplicating an optional question and omitting an additional optional question. The Election Committee decided that candidates may still answer the additional question, and will waive the word count limit in the case of answering this additional question. You may fill out your answer on your candidacy page. The deadline to answer the optional question is 23:59 UTC on 2 June. Please let me know if you have any questions. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 15:35, 30 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Keegan, thank you very much for your part in fixing this minor glitch. Pass my gratitude on to all who are involved. This is a question that is important to me and that I will happily answer soon. Kritzolina (talk) 07:15, 31 May 2024 (UTC)
Je vais continuer on anglais and I hope this is okay for you.
- My long term vision is a movement that is diversifying more and more and bringing especially those pieces of knowledge to our users that might have been overlooked in the past. But also bringing basic general knowledge to people that might not be able yet to find good quality information and knowledge in their languages.
- I think it is very important to see the difference between small language Wiki-projects and majority language Wiki-projects like English, French and German. In the small languages our projects often still miss basic articles on science, medicine, politics, sports or other important subjects. Here we need to strengthen the contributor base and help them to create such articles with a mix of translations and new content from local sources. For the majority languages we need to identify knowledge gaps and along with this we need to identify people who could help fill those knowledge gaps.
- In both cases very valuable contributions are most likely to come from individuals who are already doing important work to promote knowledge outside the Wikimedia movement and who also face a high risk of becoming targets of discrimination and harassment. So we need to work as a movement to invite those people in, create a comfortable working atmosphere for them and to keep them safe.
- I have worked towards this goal in my professional capacity for WMF, e.g. by supporting the creation of the Universal Code of Conduct, but these issues have always been dear to my heart as a volunteer and I tried to support users working on minority language Wikis wherever I could. I am aware of many issues these contributor face from technical challenges like missing templates and untranslated documentation of important functionalities to the challenge of supporting a Wiki community in a society that does not support the use of that language. I don't see easy solutions and have a lot more to learn before suggesting actions to the WMF, but I am willing to listen, learn and then push for the support needed by the volunteers on the ground.
- Have a great day and a wonderful weekend Kritzolina (talk) 10:17, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
--Jwollbold (talk) 09:52, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
- Hi everyone, as we already continued this discussion on my de.WP talkpage, I would ask you to read or join in there, so we don't split this thread. Please be aware that the user asking this question self-declares as a member of a political party that is known for pushing fake information around Covid-19 and has an indefinite partial block on de.WP, banning them from editing articles in connection with this political party and its agenda.
- Please also be aware that I don't recommend clicking the link they shared, as it leads to the YouTube channel of Dirk Pohlmann. Kritzolina (talk) 13:55, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
- I shortly answered at the de.WP talkpage. --Jwollbold (talk) 17:10, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
